[WIN7] Network printer / Win7 / APEBSMy home/office has an Air port extreme for router. I have a wired network printer connected to it. (HP 1505n) All computing done wifi, no patch cords.
My apple devices print to it fine. My ancient windows box used to print to it also. Was printing for years just fine under XP (after screwing with it for way too long initially).
Printing worked fine under W7 after I upped the OS and was a whole bunch easier to setup network printer - almost Apple easy. Then I replaced the HD with a Samsung 840 Pro. It printed test page after reinstall & setup.
After I powered it up a day or so later, no printing ever again. Removed drivers and pulled down fresh drivers again from HP. Everything acts like everyone is seeing each other but no print jobs ever come out from pc. Sees the ip of printer but doesn't talk to it No light activity on printer to indicate it hears a file coming.
Before I swapped hd I wrote down ports etc from the working printer setup to make durn sure there would be no problems.
Anywhere to point me to help find the boogieman? |

Have you looked down on the task bar (Show Hidden icons) to see if the print queue status window is there? You may have one or more print jobs stuck in the queue. |

Thanks, yes I have done that. The test page will be waiting there so I delete it and try printing a simple notepad or wordpad doc and it gets hung in the queue & can't find printer. |

Is there an error being reported in the print queue or do print jobs just accumulate in the spool?
(I might get swear words back for asking this. . . but is there any chance the queue is set to "use printer offline"? ) |

The Printer box just shows the job name then Status/ Error - Printing
Online
Not a Dell Just a bunch of parts that otherwise play nice 3 gig P4 with 4 gig ram |

Delete the print jobs from the queue. Go in to the printer properties and assign it to an unused port (like LPT1). Delete the IP port the printer was attached to. Delete the printer.
Go into Printers and Devices. Tell it to add a new network printer. Let it search and find the printer. Select the printer and tell it to install. If your printer isn't in the list on the driver page, tell it to use Windows update to find the driver.
Using the HP software and drivers is usually not necessary when adding a networked laser printer to Windows 7. |

Thanks for the tip.
I suspect coincidence at work but shortly before I did your suggestion, 3 apple devices & one win7 could print thru network. After I unsuccessfully tried tip - no body can print wifi now. And the printer refuses to print it's System Info page. USB printing is normal.
Amazon is putting a new one on a truck for me. |
