I upload 24/7 backing up personal files to cloud storage (can do about 1.8 TB/month on 5 Mbps upload). I have about 50 TB of data stored locally and I want it all backed up offsite.
And I download stuff. The stuff I keep archived is typical stuff. Movies, video games, television, 4K & 3D porn, Blu-rays...
I have the residential 50/5 tier. |

That explains things. I use disk images to store my stuff, the cloud is not for me yet. Let's hope caps will never happen or make an unlimited tier for a higher price. Looks like I'm in the low end compared to the majority of the guys replying to the OP, I guess I'm relatively safe. IMHO porn is the only thing worth saving |

You know there are better services for that then using the 5 Mbps upload, right? Get a LTO tape system, you can backup around 2 TB an hour these days, and with a tape robot you can have all 50 TB backed up in a week, shipped it offsite, where you can have it unloaded to a backup provider. I know most residential backup providers that advertise unlimited, usually have a "soft cap" around 1 or 2 TB, where they kindly ask users to upgrade to a better plan. What backup provider do you use, may I ask? And what on earth causes you to have 50 TB of data? I know you mentioned security camera data once, but I can't imagine it is important to save that off-site, unless you want to find out if someone walked up to your property right before it burned down. But even then, the last 12 hours is the most important, nothing more. Anyways, a LTO tape system + courier service that comes and pick up the tapes once a week is much more efficient. Sure, it is more expensive then using your 5 Mbps upload, but since you need around 2-3 Mbps upload just to get your full 100 Mbps download speed (2-3% in request packets) it doesn't seem even REMOTELY worth it to use your upload speed for such an amount of data. |

I use Usenet and Backblaze. quote: And what on earth causes you to have 50 TB of data? I already mentioned this. I archive material that is difficult or impossible to replace. I have a FTA satellite setup so I can record rare material in qualities impossible to find elsewhere. I'm talking about Blu-ray quality backhaul feeds. You know that Peter Pan live play they had on NBC a few months ago? Yeah, I've got a 45 Mbps H.264 recording of that with no channel bug on it captured via C-band satellite. Good luck finding a better quality copy of that, anywhere, ever. That's a 42 GB recording for 2 hours of video. Or if you pick up a TV season of a show on Blu-ray, that's 250 GB of data to back up. I expect the Blu-ray 4K format to further balloon my data collection. Then of course there's porn which is harder to replace than mainstream Hollywood stuff that shipped on physical media which you can usually find a good 1:1 copy of on piracy sites. Replacing a specific XXX scene in a specific quality is a much harder task than replacing a movie. This is the most important type of media to keep stored locally because you never know what you're going to be in the mood for; you need to have a large collection of material ready to go at a moment's notice. But with a normal movie you can just think 'Hmm, I want to watch [X] tonight, let me throw it in the download queue.' When others lose all their shit in fire or theft, I'll be ready to re-download all my stuff as if nothing ever happened. |

I have yet to find cloud hosting as fast, reliable, and cost effective as Usenet. And the sheer number of server farms around the world make it the most redundant solution as well. Surely you should know all about Usenet's superiority |

Unless I misunderstood you and you are just saving NZBs of other posts for later retrieval. |

FWIW... 5Mbps ADSL (I know, not TWC.. yet). Usage is a bit low towards the end of the month due to congestion issues. |

This is with some Netflix, some XBox1 downloads, and a SamKnows box running its testing regularly. I'm on the 30/5 plan; upload runs fairly close to the rated 5, but the download (per SamKnows) averages 26-28. |

2nd account. Just used for basic web browsing. No video at all really. See how much of a rip off smart phones are. I refuse to buy 1, ever! Still using my trusty flip phone. Go ahead, laugh. I do all the time, when I have full bars and you "smart" phone has no service. haha!! And as you can see it's been used more and more each month. |
