[F@H] time-out / expiration date rantWhy is it that they send out WUs with very short ETAs (4 or 5 hours on my machine) combined with a long time before the time-out / expiration dates (often over a week for the time-out and much longer for the expiration) but they send out other WUs with long ETAs (1.2 days on my machine) with only a 3 day time-out / 5 day expiration????
This means that lots of WUs sent to one of my machines never finish since it's off on the weekends and only on for a few hours during the day.
End of rant. |

you may want to consider Rosetta at Home I do not think you will have that problem there. I have never run R@H though. |

AFAIK, I have never had that happen, but I don't think you are the only one.
Ron has a good suggestion, though, if you are folding on a machine which, for whatever reason, often cannot make the deadline, Rosetta@Home is certainly an option. |

I have been trying to read some of the interesting topics which have surfaced on the new F@h subreddit. In one of them, about results which have come out of F@h, somebody said there are some really expensive checks on the accuracy of F@h results, but Rosetta can do a pretty good job of that less expensively. That assumes I am actually understanding what I am reading, of course. A topic started on the new subreddit by someone who pretty obviously just wants to smear the F@h science is pretty much backfiring on the individual as people who actually understand what PG is doing comment. One of the responses points to an older topic from another subreddit. Some of you might find it interesting. > » www.reddit.com/r/askscie ··· nything/ |

If everything goes well, this machine should make its first contribution in the middle of next week.
Every little bit counts: To use a Canadian analogy, it takes a lot of individual snow flakes to make a blizzard! |

When I checked my stats for my first bit of work I was surprised to see that the IP for my machine was public information. I should have paid more attention when setting up my preferences on the initial install.
It took me a while, but it looks like I figured out how to hide that info. |

Is IP public info by default? If so, any advice for how to fix that during initial set up. For the FAQ? Gentle hint -> » Team Helix FAQ |

I don't remember what the default option was. But when asked the question: Should Rosetta@home show your computers on its web site? You should answer "no" If you answer yes, you can go to: » boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/and then click on "your account" and then click on "Rosetta@home preferences" and then click on "Edit Rosetta@home preferences" and go from there |

I just realized that the browser that was showing my IP info was the one where I was logged into the rosetta site. Maybe the IP info only shows for the logged in user (?) Regardless, now no info about my computer should be publicly available. |

I'm not seeing IP info for my computers (not hidden) at the Rosetta at Home site but that may be because they do not have public IP addresses to begin with.
I just looked at your information and it does say: Computers hidden. |
