[Rant] rate increases cant choose with your wallet

At Cox Communications, it's our priority to consistently
add value to your Cox services. We're proud to offer access to
Pandora on TV, more TV networks, live streaming channels, and
more sports anywhere through multiple devices. Plus, Cox is
continuously improving its network to maintain the best high speed
Internet service with faster speeds, increased cloud storage, an
updated interface to make it easier to back-up, store and share
files, the addition of WiFi hotspots and access to telephone service
with a reliable, crystal-clear connection to make sure your home
phone works when you need it the most. Due to investments in
improving our services and increases in programming and business
costs, we are making the following changes to our service rates
effective [February 3, 2015]. These changes will be reflected on your
next bill statement. All prices are listed per month unless otherwise
noted and subject to surcharges, fees, taxes and deposits. If you
are a Price Lock service agreement customer, prices for services
covered under the terms of your Price Lock service agreement will
not change for the duration of your agreement. These services are
indicated on your monthly statement. We appreciate your business
and look forward to serving you in the future.
Internet.

They did the TV service the same way I shut it OFF.

I wish I could vote with the wallet.

You might want to try. I am sure an Internet only is still cheaper than Double Play/Triple play. I would disconnect or schedule a disconnect and just see if they offer a cheaper plan to get you back. If not, you can always reconnect after one month.

3 years ago, with TWC, I canceled the TV portion. TWC retention called me up before my scheduled disconnect day and dropped the rated by $25.

With my parents, couple of years ago, I switched them from Verizon DSL/DirecTV to FIOS. DirecTV called me up and offer to drop TV portion price from $54.99 to $24.99. I told them thanks, but no thanks, I want my parents to have faster Internet since they watch streaming chinese TV.

So, you might threaten to cancel and see. Of course, YMMV. As mentioned, you can always reconnect later.

Just a little disclaimer, I live in NYC. There's some competition going on here, depend on the neighborhood and building, you may have some combination of choices in DirecTV/Fios/TWC/RCN/DSL. Might be the reason the rate can be negotiated easier.
