Frontier Line Monitor GroupJustin has given us the ability to group line monitors together for the purposes of looking at single ISP. Members of a group get free, as in no TP deduction, line monitoring services for now. This is where you need to go to get setup & sign on: * Sign-Up * . Make sure when you're done to click "Create Monitor". You need to be "pingable" . This is important! There is no need for third party software - if your IP changes, you can always edit your monitor to reflect the new IP. You just need to do 2 things: 1) enter IP in the static IP box AND 2) check the "dynamic" box. You must do both. Make sure you also go to »/prefs/flair and select "SECTION My home connection" and enter the info there. It will appear by your graph so that others will know what service, etc you have. When you have your monitor all set up and working, send me an IM asking for an invite to the group you want to join. Make sure you are logged into the site to get the invite. Click on the invite, then click on the link in the invite and accept. Your graph will appear here: Frontier Line MonitorsI will be putting a link for our Line Monitor Group in the forum's side bar links. Edit: »Line Monitoring FAQSo...Who wants to go first? You can either post in this thread to get an invite or you may IM me. |

Hmmm this is interesting but I'm not sure yet that I want to expose myself in this way. Does anyone here know of free (or cheap) software that does monitoring like this? I would set it-up on my own 24/7 server to keep tabs on my ISP at our vacation home in Wisconsin.
EDIT: I found EMCO Ping Monitor Free does what I want, it appears anyway given that I just installed it. Monitors a site at an interval of your choosing and sends email notifications of your choosing including on Connection Loss and Restore and 3 or 4 four others. I will have it send these to my cell phone's SMS address. |

Being able to watch and see what others get will be very interesting, Very interesting....
But i can already see the pattern of my connection, and it is not good. Not good at all! |

said by sashwa:I'm glad you finally got it working, atigerman. I am to, i had some issues with using (sfo-monitor.dslreports.com) DNS name. I was getting a hit on my firewall from 64.81.79.41 but doing an NSLOOKUP of (sfo-monitor.dslreports.com) would resolve to 64.81.79.40. So i had to end up just adding both IP's instead of the DNS name.... |

I see MDrules and Killbit both use Pfsense. What type of modems do you use and how is Pfsense connected to them. I'm trying to determine if i have an issue with my setup causing my latency issues or if it's all on frontiers end.
From what i can tell the issue is between me and my CO's in/out Hop ip's.
I have dual 7550's in bridged mode each connected to pfsense by means of a Wan and OPT interface. I have a set of rules in the Wan section of the firewall allowing echo requests from the ping monitor. |

I don't have a 'modem' it's directly connected to the ONT, and I am pretty sure killbit has the same setup. We have FiOS and not DSL. I had multiple connections at one point and had an issue with the 'Wan' always being used by the box itself. For instance, if the 'Wan' connection dropped/went down everything inside my network would use the 'Opt' connections. But the pfsense box itself couldn't get out. I mostly noticed it unable to check for updates, but I don't know if it always replies to echo requests out that interface or not. |

When i look at everyones elses graphs i see a nice level almost flat lined reading, i'm assuming everyone is putting their connection under load? (ie: netflix, video game updates, file downloads) |
