[Modem/Router] Best router

Hello everybody,
I had Linksys WRT 54 G V8 router but the wifi connection is so bad. The main problem is that the speed is so low and the connection disrupts in my bedroom which is 10 m away from the router. I live in a condo. Which router should I buy to fix this issue?

I have the asus rt-ac87u. There is also a asus rt-ac3200 model coming out soon. I would never recommend linksys/cisco or dlink because I had horriable experiances with them.

If your just looking for a router that can run 3rd party firmware or just looking for a wireless N router then the Asus rt-n66u will solve your questions. The rt-n66u is a really good router that is very flexible.

There's also the Buffalo AC router with DD-WRT built in that I run that (apparently) can survive a "sync no surf" Sagecom modem issue without dropping connection completely.

In my case last night I was streaming for a radio show on a PC (wired) while working on a wirelessly connected laptop. All of a sudden the wireless connection starts gagging and I lose the laptop, then I lose everything else on the PC *except* the program that I was streaming with (SAM Broadcaster Pro and a constant 128K stream out) and then about five minutes later the laptop and PC connections normalize.

Normally when the connection went bad with my old Asus router absolutely everything died. This suggests that certain routers can weather the storm somewhat if the data being streamed out is constant.

It (asus rt-ac87u) is twice as much as RT-N66U. Besides I thought N routers are better than AC as it's a new technology. Am I wrong?

IMHO, money spent on AC at the moment is virtually a total waste of money.
Grab the N66U, spend the rest on some fun and frivolous vice.

No, N is older technology. Wireless AC is the latest and greatest that can support upto 3.2 gbps wireless speed. Wireless N can do 900 mbps max. Buffalo routers running wrt firmwire do have issue with the wireless. Any router that runs 3rd party firmware makes the device unstable. I suggest the rt-n66u router because I had it and it is a well rounded router that has support for 3rd party firmware if you really want it. It is a really stable router.

ASUS RT-N66U + Merlin Frimware = Awesome Combination

It's what I started using a few months ago, coming from a Trendnet TEW432-BRP

Don't waste your money with the AC Version as it will be years before AC becomes main stream and integrated into everyday devices.

People should change their router once every 3-5 years anyways.

"huh_wha" is right wireless AC is not really necessary unless you want the latest and greatest.

AC is an extension of N MIMO. AC makes N work much better.

Does An AC Router Improve N Device Performance?

My suggestion for a replacement router is the Netgear R6300

I agree with mozerd. AC gear seems to improve performance of even N equipment.

The R6300 and R7000 are great routers.

But so are the RT-N66U, RT-AC66U and the newer RT-AC87U
