What are the differences between all the TV equipment?

I am looking at the following list on Verizon's website. »www.verizon.com/support/ ··· ions.htm

This is the list of all the equipment and what it is, or at least what I think it is.

Arris VMS 1100: Used in Quantum and connect to IPC boxes. This is where DVR is stored
Arris IPC 1100: Used to play content on another TV from the VMS
Motorola 7232-P2:Multi-Room DVR, not sure what connects to it or how much it holds.
Cisco CHS 435HDC: No clue
Motorola 7216: Old DVR, not sure how much it holds.
Motorola 6416: Old DVR with Composite on front, not sure how much it holds.
Motorola 2078:Old SD DVR.
Cisco CHS 335HDC: No clue
Motorola 7100-P2: HD STB newer 7100-P1, no clock
Motorola 7100-P1: Regular HD STB
Motorola 6200: HD STB with composite
Motorola 2500: SD STB

Cisco 435 is like 7232P2 and Cisco 335 is like 7100P2.

All besides 435, 335, 7232P2, 7100P2, VMS 1100, IPC 1100, and the Motorola DCT digital adapter are phasing/phased out. 7232 can be used as a DVR or MRDVR.

Quantum is the new 6 tuner setup where you have one or two VMS with 6 tuners each and 1TB each. Then put an IPC on each other TV which connects to the VMSs tuners

The 7232 and most 7216 are 500G. Many of the older DVRs are 160

Any idea why FiOS would get Cisco and Motorola boxes to do the same thing?

You can find a list here. Has not been updated yet with the VMS equipment.

It's called multi-sourcing. It means VZ it not dependent on one vendor to provide all the equipment they need. It also gived then negotiation power by making the vendors compete on price.

The STB list is now updated to include VMS, and has updated statuses on whether or not models are phased out. (Thanks to More Fiber for updating the list).

I believe Motorola no longer makes Cable boxes. That division of Motorola was bought by Arris.

That may be true but the boxes are still made under the Motorola name.

With the VMS set up, does each IPC client count as a separate tuner? So let's say you are watching live tv on the IPC, does that mean you only have 5 tuners left on the VMS?

Ok, so the new VMS setup is a bit misleading then. The old DVR only had 2 tuners, but any other boxes you had didn't use up those tuners. With the VMS setup you could run into issues if you have a lot of rooms with several IPC clients running.

That is why VZ offers a 12 tuner configuration (2 VMS 1100s).

Well yeah, but then you need more equipment which costs more money.

You are using a box that has 0 tuners in it so of course it's going to have to use one from the main box for it to work. I can see why most would think the 6 tuners are always available though.

Are their any key differences between the 7100 and the 7100-P2 other than the clock? I recently switched to FiOS and got the 7100.

The 7100-P2 is smaller and black in color while having more memory and using less power than the QIP7100-P1.
