[TV] 2015 SuperBowl (Ads)Hi,
The SuperBowl being on NBC this year, I wonder if there's any chance we might have the ads from NBC, without sim sub. I'm in Quebec on Fibe.
I guess they will sub to CTV or TSN.. What if I get regional option and watch it over NBC Seattle? |

No, not this year. In 2017 as per the CRTC ruling this week you will.
Starting 2017 Bell/Rogers/etc will be able to show canadian commercials only on the channels that they own and operate (CTV, etc).
They will no longer be able to simsub canadian commercials over american channels.
This is for the superbowl only and affects no other instances of anything. |

Hi CTV a division of bell media has the canadian rites to air the superboul in canada. None of the usa commercials paid for canadian advertizing airtime so ur required to watch canadian commercials by living in canada if u really want usa commercials then get an antenna but just remember a commercial is an adcertizement for a product or service. U wouldnt be happy if u own a usa company and 30% of the money u spend on adds were to an audience who is ineligible to buy ur products. Id be pissed off |

Or looked at another way the US advertiser gets 30% more eyeballs for the same amount of advertising dollars he spends. |

If u work in marketing u would no how important it is to advertize to ur target audience. Its like rogers putting cable tv commercials in quebec where they have no cable service the guy who made the decision to could loose his job, |

Yeah I know about target audience.. but I tend to prefer the free market approach.. By that I mean that sim sub should be banned year long.. When CBS and CTV are broadcasting the same show at the same time, I should be the one who decide whether I wanna watch Burlington hunting supplies ad or CTV ads.
When I'll be tired of ads for products/services I'm not even allowed to buy, I might just switch to CTV a myself... |

If you have Shaw Direct you probably won't be simsubbed. |

Is that how it has been for recent Super Bowls with Shaw Direct?
I can only speak from my experience from when it was called Star Choice (so I'm dating my experience), but I had noticed that *C didn't really always simsub regular season and playoff NFL games (on the local Global stations I was watching anyways), but when it came to the Super Bowl, they sure as heck didn't miss the opportunity to do it then! I even hosted a Super Bowl party one time under the belief that Star Choice didn't simsub NFL games. Took a bit of good natured ribbing a little while following that gaff. |

They don't simsub CTV, at least not around here. They will for City and Global, though. |

I wonder if it because Bell owns CTV and Shaw doesn't care if they simsub their competitor. lol |

I thought about that. They do simsub City, but Shaw and Rogers aren't really ever in direct competition with one another. |

Yeah, Rogers and Shaw cable systems don't compete with each other, but Shaw Direct and Bell (Satellite) TV do! Though I guess Shaw Direct also does kind of compete with Rogers but in a smaller way. |
