Sheriff Departments "concerned about Waze"

Waze is a popular app that allows users to post locations of accidents, construction, police cruisers etc. to a Google Map within the app. I'd say it's the internet version of CB radio for travelers.

Some are saying it endangers law enforcement officers. Others say it makes it harder to catch speeders.

The National Sheriffs' Association had previously focused its campaign against Waze on police safety after the fatal shootings of two New York police officers in December.

I don't recall seeing news articles where any of the people involved in officer shootings used Waze to target or locate officers.

... Sheriff Mike Brown of Bedford County, Virginia, said states might pass laws to prevent people from revealing the locations of parked police cruisers. ...

In that case, every trucker with a CB radio would be in the pokey. This invites yet another poorly drafted, over-broad law to be touted by the supposed defenders of children and anti-terrorism.

Story here.

You mean from that Founder's document that all too few in authority pay attention to any more; and if they do, only after-the-fact during lawsuit litigation?

The group broadened a campaign against Waze with a new statement criticizing Google's software as hampering the use of speed traps.
It's all about the money.
