[DSL] How and what to check to see if I should be getting a better speed

I have Frontier DSL in Rochester (Greece/Hilton). From what I've been told I've been provisioned for 3.6Mbps down. The best I've seen is 3.08Mbps (Frontier's speedtest) and it's typically 2-2.5 on external speedtest sites. My upload rate is almost always 0.38Mbps. Currently the modem (I'll have to look to see what model, newer black one) is bridged and my PFsense machine handles the PPOE. Once back in September 2014 I was getting 5MBps down. I've been trying to find out what tools are available to test everything from my end so that I can go back to Frontier and ask for a better download speed.

Testing while writing this message:
Down 2.84 - 3.08 Mbps
Up 0.37 - 0.38 Mbps
latency 9ms - 15ms
Jitter is 10ms - 50ms

I would first suggest getting your modem line stats... you will have to reset your modem taking it out of bridged mode first.... I can post more detail when I get home

You can also do this: »doc.pfsense.org/index.ph ··· firewall to get access to the modem when it's in bridge mode with pfSense.
