Looks Like TWC Has Hosed Their IPV6 In SoCal

Native IPV6 is gone for me here in Santa Ana after months of it working just fine. Anyone else around the 92704 area lost theirs??? I am getting all the addresses/prefix's needed from TWC no problem but it looks like there is no IPV6 gateway (1st hop out on the web) at TWC to route to and go anywhere.

Sure hope I do not have to go back to my HE Tunnel although to be honest it is a hell of a lot less fussy more reliable than TWC's native IPV6 has proven to be over time.

No problems in my area, but I'm nowhere near Santa Ana. In fact, I was even thinking that TWC's IPv6 has been quicker and more reliable the past few days, but don't have any numerical evidence to prove it.

Hey thanks for getting back guys. My IPV6 is working again after being out for several hours.

Optic sorry to hear you still can't get "V6" with your 6183 after all this time.

It's a config issue with your gear. All the Maxx areas in SoCal have active ipv6.

Post a screenshot of your router's IPv6 config page.

If you have not already check that you're running the latest firmware with the AC87U.

How come your DNS server doesn't have IPv6 internet access? It was turned on in Hawaii around the first of the year. (I now have a valid IPv6 address and several temp ones and my router has auto detected, but I can't use IPv6 yet. I hear it is not going active until Hawaii goes MAXX later this year).

Did you change your router wan MAC and PC MAC addresses like ViperJohn did in that thread after he switched modems?

Just saying ipv6 doesn't work and not providing more specific info doesn't help us, help you fix it.

»Re: [Internet] Upgraded to a SB6183 Modem and Lost TWC Native IPV6
said by ViperJohn :

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

I got my TWC IPV6 working again. Had to change my Routers MAC Address (and the Network Adapters MAC Address
in Windows when direct connecting to modem) to get a response to IPV6 advertisements from TWC. Using any MAC
Address that was previously associated with my old SB6141 modem completely kills TWC IPV6 with the new SB6183.

I suspect this behavior is actually modem independent and MIGHT occur when changing out any old modem that had
working TWC IPV6 to any new modem when using the same MAC Address with both.

Try this...
1. Release your WAN DHCP IP on the router.
2. Unplug the router from the modem.
3. Change the WAN MAC on the router.
4. Power cycle the router.
5. Release the IP DHCP lease on the PC.
6. Change the PC MAC if you can.
7. Power cycle the router again.
8. Login to the router to make sure that works.
9. Power cycle the modem.
10. Reconnect the modem to the router.
11. Check your IPs on the router and PC.

At the very least, when you're done, you should have different ipv4 IPs for both your router and PC.

Hey DD

Let me clarify on the MAC address changes. You only need to change the computers network adapter MAC address if you are direct connecting the computer to the modem. TWC can't see that MAC address if there is a router in between the modem and computer..

The new MAC address MUST BE virgin and never before assoiciated with a modem thats been connected to TWC be it by you or anyone else. If the MAC addy you change to is in a TWC database somewhere (not a virgin) and TWC looks it up your TWC native IPV6 will probably still be AWOL after the change. I say probably because this "loose your IPV6 behavior" shouldn't be happening at all and indicates a config issue at TWC.

A good way to get a virgin MAC addy is from a LAN adapter, (either network card or old MB) you own and have NEVER direct connected with. Even better is the LAN side MAC from an old router ya have kicking around. The later is a unique "TWC virgin for certain" and is where I got the MAC addy I used to get my IPV6 working with my SB6183.

Ipv6 has been working great for months here. Now as to the SB6183, I believe there are some workarounds to get IPv6 to work, and that there are some problems with those modems. Not everyone has problems though.

Also: the latest merlin firmware REQUIRES you to do a full system reset to defaults first. Did you do that? (Did you read the readme at all? )

If you don't do a full system reset to default before upgrading to 378.50 all sorts of things could cause issues and problems. But then, you would indeed know that if you read the readme and the changelog
