February Legal Notices/HD Anticipation Thread

It's that time of the month again.

If you come across a notice in your local paper, please post it here via upload or by typing out a summary.

Please note the on or after date on notices when they are posted. Sometimes they launch on the date but on occasion they do launch after the date.

While the below is the possibilities list, some of these are not even really possibilities.

POSSIBILITIES List

-Africa Channel HD (Might be unlikely since it's on MTM's)
-Aspire HD (If Available)
-Daystar HD (Maybe more likely since we already have the SD version)
- Dscovery Life HD (If indeed available)
- Fusion HD
- LongHorn Network HD
-NHK World HD
- Nuvo TV HD
- Pac 12 Regional Channels (There are 6 of them and are only on Bakersfield)
-Pivot HD
-Revolt HD
-Retirement Living (RLTV) HD (If available)

It's also possible TWC/BHN picked up something we do not know about or will add International and/or Spanish Language Channels in HD.

They announced Babyfirst HD but that never materalized. My guess is it's not available yet.

These channels that Bakersfield got recently could also be in play

Multimedios HD
Teleformula HD
Video Rola HD (Birmingham got this too)

Here are the channels on month to month agreements

NHL Center Ice/NHL Network
RFD-TV (Bakersfield only)
Youtoo
Zap2it (Channel Guide for customers without a box.)

April 12 is the Season 5 premiere of Game of Thrones, as well as the season premieres of Veep & Silicon Valley so I'm sure that's why HBO is running it that weekend.

The Michigan notice is very similar:

MTMs: NHL Center Ice, NHL Network and Youtoo. The carriage agreement with Reelz expires April 30.

Free previews are the same.

On or after April 15, WXYZ Live Well Network (ch 105) will rename to WXYZ Laff TV. (LWN is shutting down.)

Are those triple digit channels your HD versions?

If so, that would be a bad shift for you guys although SDV has gotten WAY better since I got HD almost 7 years ago. I rearely have an issue with it any more.

Thanks for posting this JW!

Bakersfie;d's notice is the same although they only seem to have NBC Universo on Nuestros Canales and not premier.

No, they are the digital versions. Our HD channels are in the 1000s.

Those are not the HD versions, just the SD versions.

Will be interesting to see what will happen when Birmingham ultimately goes all digital. Contractor who installed my service in November said Birmingham would be going all digital this spring, but who knows how accurate that is. I wonder what this bandwidth is being freed up for. Gary has stated that Florida is first for 300mbps internet, and it's not even available there yet. But he also said all-digital isn't required or won't happen before 300mbps in all markets.

At any rate, whenever it does happen this means that simple unidirectional MTAs won't cut it. Maybe BHN will be shifting to using full-on set top boxes for all customers, regardless? That's how Charter did it. No MTAs at all in the Birmingham market when they went all digital last year (and they actually reduced SDV, too)

Below is the notice in the Indy market. Got the e-mail earlier this week from BHN about our area products. So besides a dollar or two to free, what's the difference between a Limited Service cable box, Digital adapter and Tuning adapter? SDV pulls out more channels that I was getting on my direct cable connected to digital TV so I need one of these I am guessing to continue to see what I have had.

carriage in all formats if our authority to continue is
withheld. Also, our agreement with Reelz expires on
April 30, 2015 and we may have to cease carriage in
all formats if our authority to continue is withheld.
We are working diligently at this time to come to acceptable
and fair terms with all of these channels.

Well, we are buying a house in Hoover so we will be leaving Bright House land. I actually will miss them. I thought I received great services and enjoyed having access to help here from Gary and his cohorts...

still scratching my head on who chose to move OTA channels to SDV? that is a waste of bandwidth management and they will have to come back off of SDV when all digital happens as DTAs won't be able to get the SD feeds of channels which are not in HD if they keep them SDV. TWC here moved a ton of SD channels that are digital simulcast to SDV last year in preparation for the new channel lineup having HD boxes only tune HD channels well now they moved 30 SD digital simulcast channels back off of SDV to prepare for all digital services.

I've been mostly satisfied with BHN, too, although I had lived in the city limits a long time ago and was a customer during the TWC to BHN transition and had good service back then. Charter is much more neighborhood dependent, since their system in Birmingham is made up of a bunch of different systems they bought over the years unlike BHN. No direct forum help like Gary, but when I lived in Calera I was satisfied. Their Ultra 100 plan was kind of expensive, but their TV was way cheaper than BHN.

I have a sneaking suspicion that if the Comcast deal happens, Charter is going to try to make a play for BHN so it might all work out in the end. Good luck on the other side of the border.

Remind me again how you find the Birmingham notice? It's online or in the paper and you scan it? I'll be glad to take up the mantle of posting the Birmingham notices when you move.

Like I said, Charter in Birmingham didn't use DTAs at all and gave full-featured set top boxes to all customers regardless of service level. Maybe BHN has decided to do that in the smaller markets? In Florida I'm sure the volume of DTAs makes it worth servicing them, but maybe in a smaller market like Birmingham where they don't have millions of subs it's actually easier to just have the standard set tops and not fool around with DTAs? Will be interesting to see as time goes on (or if Gary chimes in)

It's in the paper, usually the last print day of the month, since the Birmingham News only publishes Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. It was in yesterday's paper on page A6 at the bottom. I get the free online version of the paper, which allows you to crop and download pages. Otherwise, you would either have to scan it or just transcribe the information, depending on its length.
