Is This a High Amount of Uncorrectables?

Hey guys,

Any idea of what this is? Had the techs out 3 times and they say everything is just fine. They finally just attributed my evening speed fall off to node overcrowding.

What are your thoughts? I'm using a SB6183.

These results were gathered after about 1.5hrs uptime after reset.

There's lots of variance in the downstream power. Other than that, your signals look great. 121,771,011 uncorrectables (lost packers) in 6 days is quite a lot. Try running a »/smokeping for a few days and post your results here.

My downstream power varies between 1-6dBmV every few hours. I will try to get some time and open up my firewall to smokeping.

If you own your house, I'd recommend checking your drop for water. I had a huge variance in downstream power last year with my internet dropping out every once in a while (the downstream power ranging from +2 to -14dBmV). A tech that came out replaced the old drop going between the utility poles and installed two waterproof enclosures to keep any water from getting back in. That was about a year ago, and I haven't had any signal issues or variance since then.

It's odd that the uncorrectables are only on two channels, though. Have you tried another modem? It may be a bad tuner.

How close are you to any television transmit towers? Capitol Hill, Cougar Mt. ect...?

One of the techs that came out tested from the side of the house to the street and said he was getting the same results as from in the house. Basically it would fail and then pass a few times.

I bought this modem to replace the modem that came with service because it was getting the same looking uncorrectable results.

I'm 1.6 and 3.5 miles away from our local TV broadcasting antennas. You think it may be interference?

It could be interference. Anything on RF channels 14 to 31 are between the two frequencies that are having the errors, and KONG-TV, KZJO, and KBTC-TV are on RF channels 31, 25, and 27. Is all your coaxial cable tri or quad-shield RG6?

Yep that would be my educated guess.

Check your connections and make sure they are dry and tight. Make sure your grounds are in great condition. You really should have quad shielded RG6 throughout your house. And there is no guarantee the the ingress isn't happening between your drop and the node.
