RIP SpockLeonard Nimoy, the man who made Spock famous, passed away at age 83 on Friday. Nimoy, an actor, singer, photographer, poet and voice artist who was so much more than just Mr. Spock from Star Trek, was hospitalized in mid-February for severe chest pains. He had been suffering for years from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, frequently blaming a smoking habit that he gave up decades ago. » mashable.com/2015/02/27/ ··· ain-linkDon't worry, Sheldon Cooper has his DNA. |

He used to sign his tweets: LLAP. He wasn't a frequent tweeter like Shatner, but he did a few a week.
I remember his "In search of" series from the 70's.
RIP. |

So that leave 3 original cast members left? Nichelle Nichols, George Takei, and Walter Koenig. |

Ahh, yes, the blow hard Shatner. If you follow him on Tweeter, you'll understand what I mean. When he supports a show, he supports a show. Meaning non-stop tweets while the show is on. Many times I get 100+ tweets from him. And no, he has never responded to my tweets to him. |

It was refreshing to see him in the remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers in 1978. Although the genre was still sci-fi, it was a nice breakaway from Star Trek. |

He had a small, uncredited role in the 1954 sci-fi classic Them! |

McCoy: He's not really dead. As long as we remember him.
Kirk: It's a far, far better thing I do than I have ever done before. A far better resting place that I go to than I have ever known.
Carol Marcus: Is that a poem?
Kirk: No. Something Spock was trying to tell me. On my birthday.
McCoy: You okay, Jim? How do you feel?
Kirk: Young. I feel young.

And one of his greatest guest starring roles.
Unfortunately I doubt it would be cheap to give him a burial at space in a photon torpedo casing shaped coffin.

When I look at the 2 photos you posted, I think of this poem written by Abe Lincoln: .... Where many were, but few remain Of old familiar things; But seeing them, to mind again The lost and absent brings.
The friends I left that parting day, How changed, as time has sped! Young childhood grown, strong manhood gray, And half of all are dead.
I hear the loved survivors tell How nought from death could save, Till every sound appears a knell, And every spot a grave.
I range the fields with pensive tread, And pace the hollow rooms, And feel (companion of the dead) I'm living in the tombs. .... » www.abrahamlincolnonline ··· etry.htm |

said by Kearnstd:And one of his greatest guest starring roles. Conan O'Brien wrote that episode, and said in a radio interview that they first asked George Takei to appear, but he turned it down because he was on some sort of mass transit committee in San Francisco and was worried that it might demean mass transit or something like that. Nimoy agreed at the eleventh hour to fill in. Conan was very happy because, as he said in the interview, "Spock outranks Sulu." |

I said in Canchat , that its amazing a TV show that barely lasted 3 seasons, 40 yrs ago, defined several men for the rest of lives. |

Also amazing that for a show that only lasted three seasons it altered our very culture in ways no other show likely will.
I imagine lots of kids got into science because of Star Trek.
I also predict that there will be a huge writing campaign or email that when we do achieve our first warp ship that people will try and get an exemption passed to actually call it USS Enterprise. |

You would probably have a hard time finding someone who didn't know who Mr. Spock was or the actor who portrayed him. Well, with the two most recent movies, things might get a bit murky...but I digress. Now if only the media would stop being stupid and saying "Dr. Spock" in place of "Mr. Spock." That has irritated me every time I've seen it in print or heard it on TV. EDIT: And speaking of inspiring kids, here's a Vulcan salute posted from the astronauts on the ISS: » twitter.com/AstroTerry/s ··· /photo/1 |

I'm semi-binge-watching Fringe to get my geek card reinstated, and it's nice to see him in that role at this time. |

But wasn't the 1st one the one from the STTNG movie? you know the one where Picard followed the borg back in time. and the warp ship wasn't called Enterprise |
