[Guide] You thought FIOS Guide was bad

Click for full size
Click for full size
I was visiting family this past week and they have Cox.
look at this guide:

This is on a HD TV with HD STB.
Only thing I liked is that for on demand, you could enter a channel number to go straight to one networks on demand.
But then you had to wait up to 30 seconds for the program list to download.

That Guide reminds me of when I had another Provider. They had a very similar Guide.

They probably haven't updated it in 15 years.

At the very least, I Am glad FiOS updates its Guide every year.

Oh god, that reminds me of the guide from when Digital Cable was in it's infancy in the late 90s when it was TCI and AT&T cable lol.

Looks about as bad as Verizon's guide on the 6000 series boxes. What do you expect out of 10 year old hardware? Go do a Google Image search for Cox Contour, that's what they call their multi-room stuff. Not all that different from the Quantum guide.

What are you talking about? The 6000 boxes have the same exact guide as the 7's, only not widescreen.

That's what annoys me when people don't understand that the look and intuitiveness of the guide is extremely important just as much so as having accurate listing and the ability to record 6 shows at once. Aesthetics rules.

This looks pretty similar to what I had with Time Warner recently.

I never thought the FiOS guide was bad.... In fact, it's always been orders-of-magnitude better than cable.

Still maybe a smidge less good than DirecTV, but still never thought it was bad.

want BAD? Try this....

Some of us don't understand it since we never use the guide since we have a DVR.

You don't use the guide to record shows? How do you do that?

It's basically the Kmart of guides when I had Cox that was the guide.

I search for the show titles to set recordings.

No I search by title under search. I use TiVo so maybe that is the difference, but I never go into the actual guide. Does FiOS not have a way to set up recordings by just searching for the title?

For example on TiVo, I either use the iPad App or on the TiVo go to Find TV and then search Last M and pick Last Man on Earth HD and set a season pass. I never touch the guide.

No doubt as I had Cablevision 3 years ago and the Guide was worse then the OP's ...

Here is a link of what the Guide looked liked.... (do not know the youtube poster, just using it as reference..)

That Cox menu reminds me of the one over at Blue Ridge Cable. If you never heard of Blue Ridge; they have more HD content then Verizon. But the menu stinks.

If I had a choice I'd take the additional HD content and put up with a poor menu.

That guide looks exactly like the Comcast Guide on their RNG STBs. Or at least very very similar.

Looks just like Comcast's and Cablevision's guide (depending on hardware).
