[Need Info] Where can I download IrfanView without getting any PUPs/Adware?I had to reformat my PC, and I want to download IrfanView. There are a list of choices where to download it from here: » www.irfanview.com/Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can download it from without getting any PUPs/Adware? Thanks. |

I like to get the main program from here: » www.filehippo.com/downlo ··· rfanviewBut to get the plugins, you'll have to get them from his site - no PUPs/Adware that I know of. |

Thanks....I'm a little concerned still. I Googled filehippo and adware and got some hits that said their downloads have additional stuff on it (not sure if true, but is a major concern). This never used to be such a problem as now. There are so many download sites for IrfanView. I need a clean one. |

Speaking only for myself so a test group of 1 but I always get it from Major Geeks and I've never had a problem. I get to it directly from the links on the Irfan View website as they are a listed storage place for them. Irfanview download page: » www.irfanview.com/downlo ··· ites.htm» www.majorgeeks.com/files ··· iew.htmland plugins is directly below that link on the irfanview webpage |

One of the reasons that I'm also concerned with MajorGeeks (where I have downloaded lots of software in the past from) is what is said about it in this thread: » Avoid Download.com like the plague |

I would really like to install it on my computer. I may need to pay for a program like IrfanView that is safe to download (from the Developer's site). Any suggestions by anyone of such a program is appreciated. |

Majorgeeks gives you a heads up for bundled programs when you click on their link to the program's description. You need to read carefully any dialog boxes that appear during the install. |

You need to read carefully any dialog boxes that appear during the install. Exactly ! Majorgeeks does warn and it has proven to be a great site to download programs from. They do not alter the installation files in any way, shape, or form. As far as Irfanview and other programs, it is up to US as users of those programs to keep our eyes open every step of the way during the installation to make sure that any offers or additional software that might be included is unchecked so that it is not installed. Furthermore, there is a program called Unchecky that is worth looking at .... » unchecky.com/ |

Does not matter where you get the installer as long as you verify the resulting download using the SHA-256 hash value thoughtfully supplied by Irfan at the top of his mainpage. A precaution worth taking for any executable no matter from where it's downloaded, including from the maker's site. I use & like Impbits' Hash Tag tool. Simple, fast, free and generates whatever values desired from a long list of hash algorithms shown in the image plus SHA-3 Keccak in the current version (5.2) but lacking in my older installation. Maker's site: » implbits.com/products/Usage: after installed, simple right-click > Properties any file then select the "File Hashes" tab and values you've check-boxed in settings are generated. There is no other GUI. |

Click on " Other download sites" and scroll to very bottom of page where there are download links 'Alternative IrfanView download'. The English setup (just installed) has no other bundled software; ( German installer had Google toolbar with option to decline bundled) The zip is Portable - nothing extra in there as expected. |

Really! So the 'g' in this case stands for ... DE or Google? |

Most of the stuff I use (including the Firefox Portable I'm using at this moment), I get from PortableApps.com (PAc). All of it is "installed" on my computer--"portable" meaning, primarily, that the Windows registry is not used for storing a program's settings. Still, if one wanted to, such a program could be carried to another computer and used there (almost like you were still back on your own). And so you know, the folks at PAc work directly with the developers of the programs they make available. No crapware allowed.
Other sites I have used--MajorGeeks and SnapFiles--have, as far as I've seen, always made clear distinctions about what category some program/application falls into (freeware, shareware, adware/crapware (with warnings as to "this will install crap if you let it"), etc.). I've never had any problem avoiding such junk there. |
