I think they'll end season 5 with his death. And probably open season 6 with his resurrection. And I also think he'll end up with Dany, who is about the only person Stannis would consider standing down for (because she has a legitimate claim to the throne).

Big spoilers

Yeah, I think that Jon will die from that attack but Melisandre will resurrect him.

Ditto on the big spoilers.

Jon and Daenerys are cousins. Though I guess that hasn't stopped Targaryens in the past.

Weeks after Stannis marched for Winterfell, Ramsay Bolton sends a note to Jon taunting him, telling him he destroyed Stannis' army, and is coming for Jon next. This throws Jon into a rage, and he asks (but not forces) the wildlings and the Night's Watchmen to join him and prepares to march out to meet Ramsay in battle, breaking the Night's Watch's vow not to interfere in the affairs of men. This is when Bowen Marsh, the former stewart who supported Janos Slynt (just executed) for Lord Commander, and his friends ambush and presumably kill Jon.

Yes Jon is dead as of the end of book 5. But Melissandre is right there and we know the Red God can resurrect people, so that's what I expect to happen. I don't know if Stannis is dead or not; he didn't get a death scene that I remember so I'm leaning toward no until there is proof. GRRM is not usually coy about main character deaths. Of course I read book 5 as soon as it came out and not since, may be time for a re-read.

Arya won't. GRRM said his wife would kill him if that happened.

I would love it if Arya became this amazing, skilled and accomplished assassin and eventually helps Danerys take back the throne as Arya kills every single pieces of shit who ever caused her pain.

END SCENE.

I'm already missing Arya and The Hound, but so far the Tyrion/Varys and Brienne/Podrick roadshows are filling in nicely.

What a lovely dragon! And good to finally see Arya again.

There's a lot of stuff happening that hasn't happened in the books that have been published so far, but at this point the show runners have done such a good job with the series that I'll trust them to get us from Point A to Point B.

I'm sure that leaky memory caused me to miss many minor changes and perhaps some big ones. Here are some of the big ones, most if not all feel like improvements for the screen. For example, Varys doesn't travel with Tyrion in the books, but keeping them together on HBO is a good idea. Also, I liked the addition of Arya wandering through Braavos and confronting those men, but in the books she was let into the House of Black and White immediately, and nobody has identified himself as Jaqen yet.

I don't know where they're going with it, but Sansa never left her crazy late aunt's castle in the sky, and Brienne never met up with her. Still, the manufactured scenes were pretty entertaining. It's good to see Brienne kicking some additional ass.

And Jaime never goes to Dorne in the books, so that should also be interesting.

The guy that Dany executed wasn't executed in the books, but he ended up dead anyway. He wasn't a freed Meereen slave either, he was Missandei’s brother and an Unsullied. He was one of the murder victims of the Sons of the Harpy. It's the Shavepate who's the most vocal supporter to kick ass and take names in response to the Sons of the Harpy attacks.

Yeah lots of changes in relation to the books, but I think most of them are a change for the better. Jaime and Bron going to Dorne? Yes please. But I also like Jaime's storyline in the books, when he goes to the seige in Riverrun. I wonder if they are just going to leave all that out?

Brienne, Littlefinger and Sansa will also be very interesting. And more Varys is always a good thing.

Shouldn't Meereen's harpy be missing from the intro? It was torn down last episode...they're usually pretty good about updating events and stuff (Winterfell burning, Bolton's banners, etc.)

Loved that scene. You know, Martin wrote a whole bunch of lugubrious detail in the later books that I think the showrunners are just going to cut completely from the series, and good for them ( for example, the entire plot thread of the prince from Dorne going to Meereen to try to get Dany to marry him.

It's interesting what they're doing with Sansa, though. I liked that little speech that Littlefinger gave her about taking control, which bodes well for future episodes. It gives an interesting character, Sansa, much more to do. Of course, in the books she's still sitting in the castle in the sky. It's her friend, Jeyne Poole, whom Lord Bolton claims is Arya Stark, who gets betrothed to Ramsey.
