So.....to Quantum or not?Wife was talked into and made the switch from our 2 DVR's to Quantum at a supposed no net price increase. Boxes arrived (enhanced), but based on the posts here, am I better off to return the unopened boxes and wait until things stabilize? Seems like it may be a net loss, aside from gaining one DVR to manage and rewind capabilities on all boxes? Have until end of April to return. |

I think it is better to move ahead. Keep the Quantum boxes. They should correct the issues next week. We hope. |

You don't have a huge setup. Go for it! Fixes are coming very soon! |

I upgraded to Quantum TV recently (1 VMS1100 & 2 IPC1100's) and except for the annoying memory leak issue that requires a reboot of each device once or twice per week, I have experienced no problems with the enhanced TV service. |

As a long time customer - don't do it. You'll be taking a step back for the next 6 months. |

I've had Quantum for 2 months and it's been fine for me. I have not seen most of the bugs people have reported. Besides, most of the bugs people reported seem to be more of an annoyance rather than crippling. |

I'll put my two cents in here. As much as I respect you, Jeep... I have to disagree with you on this. I've had Quantum for a year now (holy cow, has it really been that long?) with the DVR and 2 IP boxes. The only real show-stopping bugs I've seen are the memory leak and the video jump back. The latter has all but vanished for me (haven't seen it in several days, now that I think about it). The former... well, rebooting does help on that. For right now my unit is very snappy.
But I really like the overall functionality of the set-up. I've gone at length on how seamless the whole experience is. It really is. Having the extra tuners and extra harddrive space are really nice too. In all honesty we don't have too many recording conflicts in our house, but it's really nice to be able to record without having to juggle schedules.
Also I think Verizon's been pretty darn aggressive at fixing the bugs that pop up.
My vote - set it up. |

JPL,
I Agree with you. I have had my setup since last June.
The benefits of 6 tuners and 1 TB HDD outweigh having to reboot my boxes every week. But I am sure that will be resolved fairly soon. Also no more schedule conflicts with that 1 minute over stuff.
Plus, I know in the future, they will improve the Guide, add features etc. Between then and now, the whole experience has improved, IMO. |

Wait until you get the legacy 1.9.8 IMG -- you'll really love Quantum then. |

It's expensive, I'd go back to a K-Mart style of menu of they gave out free boxes. |

I got Quantum Boxes, then downgraded to MRDVR. I have the boxes and don't pay extra for them. The way I see it, even though it doesn't seem like it now, these are the boxes that VZ is focusing on, and I know it sounds a little cheesy, but these are the 'boxes of the future'. |

UpdateThanks for the input. Made the leap and installed yesterday. Pretty flawless install of the MS and 3 boxes. Hated to lose my recordings, but nothing that can't be found again. So far so good, but noticed the downgraded Guide and condensed future schedule viewing. Loving the increased concurrent recording and smaller boxes.
I now join the masses who await for Quantum to catch up to the previous set-up, but am happy so far. |

the firmware update within the last month just made the boxes as stable as ever, and even better than the STB's ever were
the simple recording feature i just found out while pushing the 6 tuners to the limit during march madness and finding out that the box finally adjusts "added time" to the final program on channels with back-to-back scheduled, where previously id have to manually set everything |

Re: So.....to Quantum or not?I've enjoyed it. The one thing they advertise though is something like "ability to record 12 shows". I only seem to get 6 and if I go to watch something else on another television, it tells me I need to stop recording one of the 6. Not sure what that's about just different than advertised...it's so rare I just overlook it...and maybe I just misunderstood. But product is pretty good IMO. |

It sounds like you misunderstood the set up. They have two 'flavors' of the Quantum set up - the 6 tuner version and the 12 tuner. Basically with the 12-tuner version, you get two of the DVRs. Sounds like you got the basic 6 tuner set-up, which is what I have as well. |

OK makes sense. Thanks once again JPL. Just amazes me that the networks cannot figure out that there are different days/times to show good programming other than Sunday night lol! |

Check to see what is available On Demand and prioritize accordingly. That is what I do in some situations. BTW, I would go Quantum if I could. They don't offer it where I live. The 6 or 12 tuners are a no-brainer. Right now, I have a DVR in the living room and one in the bedroom and manage the 4 tuners with the bulk of recording in the bedroom as my live watching is almost totally in the living room (keeping those tuners free except for bigger conflict times). |

ON Demand is brutal though. Until there's a way to FF 4x or 8x it's pointless for me. That plus the issue of stopping and going back in to find it starts you from the beginning. Killer! |

there is no 12 tuner, all VMS's have 6 tuners, the 2 tiers are basically weather or not you get 1 VMS with slave devices, or 2 dedicated VMS's
Fios' wording could be much clearer, rather than using buzzwords like "enhanced" and "ultra" or whatever |

-Shark2k Correct. I never said there was a 12 tuner DVR. I said there was a 12-tuner SET-UP, which includes 2 of the DVRs. |

Big bold letters $149...small letters (for the first month) months 2-12 are $169 and months 13-24 are $189. Numbers made up here but you get the idea. Really should be a law against that. I mean I hear you that it's written down and technically accurate but don't present the month 1 price as the conract rate...it's already hard enough to compare apples to apples. |

When you sign a two year contract your package price doesn't go up. |

Are you talking about new sign ups or upgrades? I'm guessing upgrades. For upgrades the prices that show as higher are the prices out of contract or with expiring discounts. For example my contract ends Aug. of 2016. If I go to upgrade or downgrade it shows prices for 2 years from the upgrade date however the higher prices are after my contract ends. |

My issue with Quantum is that I'd have to give up both of my 'free for life' discounts - MRDVR and SD STB. That's quite a chunk of change I'd be leaving on the table.
So, until I see the 'gotta have it' feature on Quantum, I'll stay with the legacy boxes. |
