beamforming

i bought tp link Archer C 8 wifi router
It has beamforming: I am told by a friend I will not see benefits of beamforming with devices like Iphone
what devices will benefit from this feature?

as far as i know, beamforming is a feature of the AP and not the client.
Your phone may not be able to talk back to the AP with the improved reception, but the AP should be able to get a stronger signal to your phone.

Beamforming requires two devices that support MU-MIMO. To my knowledge, no mobile devices support 802.11ac MU-MIMO. Devices that fulfill this requirements are usually WiFi cards for laptops. I am sure there are USB dongles and PCI-E cards that will also support this.

MU-MIMO works best in 4x4 mode, and it would appear your router is 3x3 mode. Basically, the router is mostly sold with features you will never use, but most importantly, when you get more MU-MIMO devices, your router is likely going to be your weakest link.
