Windows update broke my keyboard

Click for full size
Running Windows 8.1 with four users and last Friday there was a windows update completed after which the keyboard would not respond either after the computer went to sleep or one user signed out and another tried to sign in. Restarting the computer would allow any user to log in and the keyboard would function fine until either sleep or log out took place. Used system restore and went back to Thursday and everything worked fine again. Fast forward to Monday and Windows updated once again the same symptoms are here. Any theories on which update is doing this or how I best resolve this issue. I had two keyboards I tried, one wired and one wireless (primary)

Have you checked to see if there is a driver update for the keyboard?

There were no drivers offered by hp for the keyboard.

usb keyboard, tried two and neither worked...had to unplug and plug it into another usb port, driver was again downloaded and so far all OK. I only downloaded one update also but am not sure if that is related.

Interesting.

Somewhere in the last week or 2 found my usb wireless mouse/keyboard playing up.
Nothing seemed to fix it until I moved from a usb3.0 port to a usb2.0 port and now all is fine.

I wonder what was addressed?

Interesting is right, to be honest I never even thought of trying a different usb port so I just did and it appears to have resolved the issue so thank you! That said I don't believe I have any usb 3.0 ports on this pc.

Now you have said that, I've plugged it back into the usb3.0 port and it is fine; so far.

[Edit: usb3.0 on my motherboard is a no go, there is still mouse delay not seen in usb2.0]

So, something broke the driver, then when allowing it to be detected again the corruption goes away.
I'll let it go on the same usb3.0 spot it was on with my trouble and see.
If just unplug n plugin again is all that is required, no biggie.
I can imagine support requests, new sales and the likes for all those that don't understand....someone will get some business/work out of this one.

Does anyone see any issues with usb hard drives at all in read/writes?
