[WIN10] Should I upgrade to MS 10?Specs shouldn't be a problem, and neither is money so much. What I am concerned about are the bugs and driver issues that plague first gen OS's. Should I upgrade on release, or wait a couple months? |

Looking for insight from people who upgraded from MS Win7 to Win10. Especially higher end rigs where GPU and other drivers can have issues. The geek in me wants to upgrade ASAP, but the engineer in me says: "not broke=don't fix". What kind of performance boost do you get? |

Windows 10 is BETA software. This means that it could possibly crash your system, screw up your data, etc. You should only test any beta OS on a spare system, not your daily driver. If they push out an update that causes a serious problem then it could ruin your day. Then there is the question of what will happen when they finally release the RTM version. Will there be a direct update from the beta version to the RTM version? In the past the answer has been no. To move from beta to RTM required a nuke and pave approach, to make certain that there was no buggy files left behind. Just know that there are risks to testing beta code. Windows 10 is NOT an "upgrade" at this time since it is not yet an official product. If you want to see what Win 10 looks like then install a copy in a virtual machine. Windows Hyper-V or Oracle Virtual Box make this pretty easy and risk-free. You can run Win 10 in a window and if it crashes it doesn't wipe out your main OS. |

Windows 8 setup was so damn annoying, along with the operating system itself, that they had better go back to the simplicity of windows 7 before I even bother with it. |

Win10 can use drivers from Vista, win7 and win8 (win8.1). The vista drivers will probably need some tweaking before they will install but they should still work. Note: I've used HP's Vista driver for the Laserjet cm1017 on win7 and win8.1. I never tried them on Win10 9926 since I rarely every print from the machine that has it installed.
On the other hand Using win10 on on a lenovo t420 required installing several win8 drivers from lenovo's website and they all worked just fine. The most recent one installed was for the Ricoh media card (SD) reader.
Vista and later all use the same driver paradigm just like win2k and xp (including all service packs) could use the same drivers. |

said by Hard Harry7:Should I upgrade on release, or wait a couple months? I'll wait a month or two, and watch the reports. Next, I will make an Acronis image of my current Windows system. And, if reports look good, I'll upgrade to Windows 10. I'll do that first with Windows 8.1. I'll then decide whether to do the same on Windows 7 and Vista machines. |

You should upgrade to Windows 10 when the parts manufacturer releases the driver. |

But this isn't the same Microsoft from the Win 7 or even Win 8 days. Updates, communication and workarounds are frequent. |
