[Equip] Motorola SB6183 install success.

Well, received my new Motorola SB6183 the next day from Amazon. Installed and up and running via the Walled Garden in 20 mins. 16 channels locked, 3 up. This install just flew like my Zoom 5341J, which is now up as a spare modem (unless my daughter needs it).

Not sure why the Netgear CM 500 failed, but so far so good. Don't care about the bright lights since the new modem is in the basement... somewhere .

I have helped install several 6183s for friends and relatives, never a problem on any of them.
I could never understand the complaints about the lights? Maybe if it was in your bedroom it could be a problem.
My neighbors 3 year old Granddaughter like to look at my 6183 in a dark room, says it's pretty.

I'm glad you got something that works good.

For me the bright LEDs of the Motorola SB6183 and the SMC D3CM1604 are a problem. Because the modem WILL be in my bedroom, and I find bright LEDS quite annoying (otherwise I would get the SMC for like $70).

Opaque tape over the LEDs?

I've always said the SB6183 was an amazing modem. Congrats on the purchase.

Mines in the bedroom, don't really have a problem with it.

So in this modem, where would I find/see my IPv6 address???

You wouldn't since it's a modem. You would see your IPv6 address in your router or through an IPv6 test webpage.

I saw it on my Zoom 5341J and the router before. Now nothing.

What I did on my SB6141 was open the case then apply black enamel paint over the LEDs. Once the paint was dry I took a needle and scaped off a small amount of paint from the middle of each LED. Now the LEDs are about the same brightness as the Zoom 5341J.

This way I did not have to look at any tape on the outside of the case.

Fixed. Had to set router to Use THIS MAC address instead of use default MAC address.

Maybe I misunderstood but when I go to any of the UI pages on the modem I don't see any IP addresses listed.

I went to this and neither shows my IPv4 or IPv6 address. »test-ipv6.com/ The addresses listed on that config page are the tftp servers Comcast uses to configure the modem. A traceroute for both point to tftp-anycast.comcast.net.

Well not sure about your router. Mine shows up now under the IPv6 tab just fine.

My router shows my IPv6 address just fine, as does that website I posted, just not in a stand alone modem UI.

I don't believe that is your Public / WAN IP addy. I believe it is the modem's managerial IP that they use to remotely manage the modem.

That's OK, it's all fixed now. The SB6183 does not show my IPv6 address.

Straight cable modems don't get assigned one's public IP address. They bridge that IP through to the device that is connected to their LAN interface.

100% correct no modem shows the public v6 ip address. Some modems will show you the management v6 address and that has nothing to do with public v6.

When I 1st got mine I was getting 8 x 3, now all of a sudden I'm on 16 x 4, so give it time, you will eventually get 16 x 4.

I'm kinda surprised by how so many people complain about it. It's such a rock solid product from two companies known for reliability and performance in the cable service field.
