Re: Redundant network setup

Good, the V2s are the ones you want, not V1s. The device view offers nothing you cant get in the normal menus, don't feel bad running windows 8.1, I finally go that to work. Its very browser dependent too.....
The hardest part about configuring the switches is that the apply button is not on the main screen its at the very button on the right hand side of any screen.

Good to know about the V1's. I got Java 7 installed, has to be 32bit version to work with Firefox. Looks like Device View is not very important, like you said it appears to have nothing the menus don't already offer. So I didn't miss out on much. Back to Java 8

You have your rack and equipment still set up from this thread NetTechie See Profile ?
If you REALLY wanted to get down and funky with it, consider this setup :

ISP #1                                    ISP #2
|                                         |
2851 #1 ------------HSRP----------------- 2851 #2
|                                         |
3750 #1 --------stack cable-------------- 3750 #2
|                    ||                   |
phy int #1 portchannel phy int #2
|                    ||                   |
---------trading endhost w/ dual nic-------

...a redundant enough setup for you, networking-wise? :)

I might do this for fun, actually. Thanks for the suggestion. But to do it would tie up my CCNA prep rig.

One other gripe is that the rack setup is a bit loud, I'm hoping to keep to fanless devices for main use.

Well I am no IT guru and have been using Zyxel dual-multiwan routers for my dual want (CABLE and DSL and now CABLE and FIBROP) connection. The cable is low throughput and just for email and backup in case the primary goes down.

Currently using the USG40W which replaced a USG300. It does all that you require and then some. It is relatively easy to program via the web gui but there is also a CLI -console interface for programming.

I'm looking at the USG50, it looks similar to the USG40, does the USG40W have fans on it?

Do not get the USG50, its like buying a rotary phone. Great for a history project though.

gotta worry about cooling it then.
i will say -- when i kick on my rack -- it warms up my office significantly.

i've been in a state of consolidation (removing old laptops, consolidating functions into vm's on intel nuc's, using appletv's for media, etc) -- just so that i dont sweat my ass off when i need to lab/study.

Good to know. Does the USG40 do dual wan? I saw it had 1 wan port.

Yes, I use it as a dual wan unit (USG40W). It has a WAN port and also an OPT port which is optional, either LAN or WAN.

As I'm not doing a redundant setup yet, I started a new topic for dual wan router suggestions.
