How to get iPhoto

A friend has wanted to get iPhoto for some time and finally got around to buying it, only to discover it is not in app store anymore.

Is this a way for her to get it?
Somehow doesn't seem right, free and all.

Or is there some other way for her to get iPhoto?

She doesn't want 10.10
She would have to upgrade too many expensive applications like FileMaker and some legal software - she is a para legal.

iPhoto is still on my system as of 10.10.3... also, still shows up in purchased items and is available to download from my App Store account on OS X. So, the key is to have purchased it before it was yanked.

Will installing iLife 11 from media then let the OP upgrade it from iPhoto 9 to 9.6 (which I think was the last version) via SU?

I do remember at some point, I got an alert that I needed to migrate to the app store version of iPhoto, and then what's when it showed up in Purchases.

Edit: This seems to be the last version: »www.macupdate.com/app/ma ··· 0/iphoto

It should upgrade it for you. As SuperNet stated it is still in the app store if you purchased it so it seems to just be hidden but available for upgrade etc.

Is there no patch for that software to run her current version on Yosemite? I find it awfully odd that the entire OS and it's security needs to be held back because of a piece of software.

It may be worth upgrading to 10.10 even if she doesn't want to. There are security flaws in Mac OS X 10.9 that Apple has fixed in 10.10.3 that they are declining to fix in 10.9 and older. .

This is doubly true if this is a work computer for an industry where data security is particularly important.

Of course, these days it seems like most people who get root on machines end up using them to send spam, more than specifically to discover data that should be protected, but you end up having to use "but you could use data!" and/or "your data could be compromised and you'd run foul of FERPA/HIPPA/SARBOX!" as the reasoning.
