Microsoft to release massive set of 34 non-security patches TuesdayInfoWorld: » www.infoworld.com/articl ··· day.htmlquote: InfoWorld | Apr 20, 2015 By Woody Leonhard
Here's what we know about those 34 patches headed for the Automatic Update chute
The official list of Windows Update patches was updated over the weekend to show that 34 patches rated "optional" are headed for the Automatic Update chute this Tuesday, April 21. No, it isn't officially a Patch Tuesday. It's not even a Fourth Tuesday. But at least we're getting some advanced notice from Microsoft.

The skeptic in me can't help but wonder why so many of the updates are listed with "no details". I think I'll wait a while. | | Gem Premium Member join:2005-09-10 1 edit |

Good choice to wait. Wish we had. The computer started installing updates first thing this morning. Updates are installed. Now it is running like it was back in the mid 1990s. Every web page is crawling as it tries to load. DSLReports is loading fine, but most other web pages are loading at a snail's pace. Actually, slower than a snail's pace. Wish I knew which of those automatic updates is causing this problem so the offenders could be removed. | | darciliciousCyber Librarian Premium Member join:2001-01-02 Forest Grove, OR

Not all older versions are gold relative to newer versions. I don't understand that same old tired song you're always singing. It gets tiring. | | darciliciousCyber Librarian Premium Member join:2001-01-02 Forest Grove, OR |

Well, I don't think it's been confirmed that the optional updates are garbage. Maybe they are, but one user's bad experience doesn't necessarily make it so.

20 Optional updates for Win8.1 and they all have corresponding KB support sites except for KB3042216 as of this writing. | | GuruGuy Premium Member join:2002-12-16 Atlanta, GA 2 edits |

This particular update was the one and only that I installed today, out of the 3 for Win 7. Leaving something around with a memory leak doesn't sound like a good idea. | | norwegian Premium Member join:2005-02-15 Outback 1 edit |

Well most are okay but 1 seems to be a right pain in the rear...maybe someone out there can digest this error to help others. Auto updates and download of the installer (Although I did download the x32 bit version by mistake after continual failures of the update package, but the x64 bit flavour failed as well.) Win 8.1 x64 bit flavour. Out of all the updates only 1 will not install: KB3022345Error: 2015-04-22 05:46:33, Info CBS Opened cabinet package, package directory: \\?\C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\09fed7efa5c7eaa1ec6f03ccf91053bb\, sandbox location: \\?\C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\09fed7efa5c7eaa1ec6f03ccf91053bb\, cabinet location: \\?\C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\09fed7efa5c7eaa1ec6f03ccf91053bb\windows8.1-kb3022345-x64-express.cab, manifest location: \\?\C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\09fed7efa5c7eaa1ec6f03ccf91053bb\update.mum

This particular update was the one and only that I installed today, out of the 3 for Win 7. Leaving something around with a memory leak doesn't sound like a good idea. Aha, good catch Frodo! | | Mele20 Premium Member join:2001-06-05 Hilo, HI

And I even have a newer OS than you that Microsoft says is still supported (8.0 Pro) but there are NO optional updates for it. That's good because only ignorant of computers fools install all those! Knowledgeable folks know to never install any optional update unless your computer has been exhibiting the EXACT PROBLEM for which the optional update is designed to fix. | | GuruGuy Premium Member join:2002-12-16 Atlanta, GA |

That update is listed as "optional". I'd think it would be recommended or important if it really was a big issue. | | Jrb2 Premium Member join:2001-08-31 |

I love my Vista...going on 8 years now and I'm also using IE7, with a few websites that will no longer allow IE7 to be used, unless upgraded to IE8 (or whatever)...those few sites I ended up using FF...I hate tabs, but, what can one do *rolls eyes* ? Whenever an update is offered...I read everything...and then do the update...never had silverlight or bing or any of that stuff...all were 'hidden' .

Uh, don't use them!? Nothing is forcing you to use tabs in Firefox... | | Mele20 Premium Member join:2001-06-05 Hilo, HI |

I see people reporting a problem with KB3022345 as well in the Wilders threadreply 32 and further. Thanks, glad I'm not the only one. It does seem that some with the x64 bit platform has issues with the update after reading that topic.
