I had the same issue with Windows, according to the info I got from ZyXEL. The built inn win client only supports 3DES and sha1 and dh1

For Phase 1 that would be correct. For Phase 2 it seems AES is working too. Here's what I've tested it with and it was working »L2TP VPN on USG - quick how-to (Win7 updated)

looks like you are setting up a straight-IPSec connection, not L2TP. Can you post screenshots of the Gateway settings on the ZyWALL(including advanced settings) and also screenshots of the the 'advanced' tab on your VPN client software
