AV Poll 2015 Poll
Which Anti Virus products do you use or prefer? |
|
One last opportunity for folks to voice their opinions and vote for the AV product they use and/or recommend to others in 2015. Share any and all comments/suggestions about protecting and safeguarding your devices from Viruses. If you use "other" tell us what it is. If you only use "online scan" let us know where/what. If you don't use an AV product why not? |

Why are Avira and Antivir two separate options? |

I made an err. Used a comma instead of a slash? Vote for Avira not AntiVir. |

I think you mean Comodo, not Comando. Also ESET and NOD-32 is a duplicate listing. Thanks. |

Currently only using Avast Free. Not exactly a fan as it bugs me incessantly for things I don't care about - and I have a damn near minimal install. |

I remember there was a really good once called "Prevx" years back. Wilders even had a forum dedicated to it. I think webroot got it though. What happened to Wilders? it's like a ghost town now. |

Yes, Webroot took over Prevx and shafted everyone to their own product. said by DarkSithPro:What happened to Wilders? it's like a ghost town now. This is a challenging time for the forum model. Look at DSLR for that matter. People are doing other things. They are twitting and fazebooking and radditing. Even though those environments/platforms have a much less rigorous level of discussion. |

Really Windows Defender getting the most votes?
Multiple independent lab tests have ranked Windows Defender as one of the worst since 2011. Every year since it has failed to improve.
I remember a few years ago Microsoft recommended that end users should install a 3rd party AV because of it's poor performance. |

Been using AVG Free for at least 6 years and additionally, just started using Immunet 3 in the last 2 months. I had previously used PCTools' Threatfire along side AVG until it was killed off. |

Re: AV Poll 2015@Drunkula
Avast Free can be configured to be fairly quiet. Disabling the cleanup and browser cleanup options, as well as setting the popup times to a minimal amount will make your experience more acceptable. |

I appreciate the poll. I can't vote though because you have combined two ENTIRELY DIFFERENT AV's into one. I would NEVER use MSE. I have been using Windows Defender on Windows 8 for three years now and am quite happy with it. Windows Defender on Windows 8 and 10 is completely different from MSE or Windows Defender on OSes prior to Window 8. |

Yeah I don't have the cleaning options installed. Thanks for suggesting, though. |

I could have been the first to pick ClamAV since it's installed by default in my OwnCloud server. But I came to my senses for Linux desktops... none! |

I could have used a multiple choice response. McAfee came with the laptop so temporarily using that. Norton's on the desktop. ESET is on the Android devices (yes, I know that it's probably unnecessary). And I have an unused Kaspersky license sitting around here somewhere... |

said by DownTheShore:I could have used a multiple choice response. Same. After some recent positive reviews, I tried Panda on a Win7 and a Win10. After a week, I took it off again I was getting strong CPU spikes on both, 3 or 4 a day. I only dug deep enough to confirm it wasn't tied to a sched scan. They always occurred while I was away so maybe Panda was trying to scan through my OpenVPN connection. I put MSAV on the Win7 and am trying out Fortinet on the Win10 |

Norton (NIS).
The results thus far aren't surprising to me. The freebies are in the lead. |

I only enable the real-time file scanning modules. I also turned down the pop-times to low values. I gave up on Avast Free when I started getting multiple [had to be dismissed manually] pop-up advertisements per day. I use Avira Free now. The once-a-day pop-up ad is within my acceptable range. Plus it seems like a pretty good a/v. |
