| The West Los Angeles Disgrace..... The Los Angeles City Market is a disgrace. If you haven't heard yet from other threads, Adelphia acquired Century Cable's assets 5 years ago, and we were promised "new advanced services" such as digital cable and cable modem service within one year of this acquisition.....
Fast forward 5 years.....
We've were only able to get Digital Cable less than a year ago, and as lml2000 explains in other threads, it's only "baby" digital....so it's a cop out. Heck, my bud lml2000 still can't even get that!
Just let me mention here first... Verizon refused to put in a CEV for our area despite the pleading of our homeowner's association. So at least Verizon's being honest about not providing DSL at all for the last 5 years.... Can't say the same for Adelphia's broadband offering.
We still can't get cable modem service either! The saga began with this promise letter 5 years ago, and right up until this past April 1st when Adelphia assured our homeowners association that Cable Modem Service would be available. April Fools!!!!....and the joke's been on us for 5 years...
See this article: »www.latimes.com/business/la-0000···16.story
And look at Adelphia's rollout of Cable Modems compared to the other franchises.....disgraceful.... For 4 of those 5 years, the only thing Adelphia sent us was a higher bill, with a new logo, for the same damn analog service as Century provided. We still had one HBO, one Showtime, One The Movie Channel, One Skinimax, snow, static, and all.....and no cable modem service.
"But exciting new products are on the horizon!" Adelphia maintained....
What a ripoff... Adelphia got nearly five free years out of us without really making any visible infrastructure or service improvements....Oh yeah....they blamed the Department of Water and Power for that in the article, the first excuse anyone actually heard from them in the "five years of when we're damn good and ready" attitude.... What a bunch of lame-o's.... What's happening now serve's 'em right. I feel bad for the people who will get canned... They're nice people and they've been very helpful...Their managers of course will stay on or get golden parachutes....typical.
No first tier market's wait for broadband has been longer or more duplicitously disgraceful than ours. Now with all this new hub bub, does anyone here actually believe that Adelphia still cares about providing CM service to an area that might be on the auction block soon? This is the city of Los Angeles for crying out load, and if you read the Adelphia article in the LA Times, you will see that they are clearly a second tier provider and that they have no business being in the Los Angeles market. They don't have the cash, they don't have the connections, and we don't have the services as a result. Good riddance, Adelphia. Go back to PA and stay there.
All I know is that when Rigas the bible thumper showed up and pulled the spice channel and playboy from the lineup (both of which generate considerable revenue for the DirectTV people), I knew we were in for a long and scary ride. Not to mention that we're only 20 minutes from the porn capital of the world, the grand San Fernando Valley.....sigh....
It's hopeless... Our new "promised" rollout date as the article states is May 15.... We'll see Adelphia.... now you've made a promise to hundreds of thousands of your subscribers publicly.... none of whom can get Cable Modem service in the Los Angeles market you control.... This will be your own undoing.... -- A proud card carrying member of the Right Wing Conspiracy [text was edited by author 2002-04-14 22:47:26]

Well, I am don't even live in a town, I live in the country, in a rural, vineyard growing area outside Ukiah, CA, a city of about 15000 people. We got digital cable about a year ago, and just got cable modems last month(through Adelphia, thanks Adelphia!)And when does not wanting to carry Crap like Playboy and Spice make you a bible thumper?? Those channels are worthless, and take up space that could be filled with better offerings. I was born and raised in So Cal too, and you make it sound like everybody wants porn there, I have news for you, many don't. A lot of us So Cal people actually have morals. Isn't there already enough trash on TV as it is?

Not everyone wants porn here..... I just took it as a bad sign with regards to the kind of company that we were dealing with. And there's nothing wrong with bible thumping.... I just don't want my Cable subject to someone's religious morals.... which they obviously are. -- A proud card carrying member of the Right Wing Conspiracy

I have Directv, and I get all those channels, I just choose not to subscribe to them. Though I would not be unhappy if they didn't carry them and put, say, an educational channel in their place. Sorry I misinterpreted your comments, I stand corrected

Sorry to disappoint, but not true. Baby digital was launched just under a year ago. I don't "get it" because I don't want it. Its sucks. My neighbor, who only has it as backup to his pirated DTV access (which is pretty stupid if you ask me), has the same "voltage" problems you have experienced. Plus, we all know that the basic lineup, which is still analog, and will be for some time, is pretty bad up here . . . . which is one of the reasons I dumped the service 18 months ago.

Was right on this one . . . just as I was right on the July 1 "promise," Adelphia told you last year. said by emhinkes: And look at Adelphia's rollout of Cable Modems compared to the other franchises.....disgraceful.... Yup. I remember those days. When I first bought my home in '98, Century Select was about $37/mo, but this was due to a $5 rebate that Century had to pay out to subs as fines because of their failure to do anything to improve the plant, and customer service. And at that time, DBS did not offer any local channels. But, the following year, 1999, the rebate expired and Century raised rates for my Select service to the $46 rate it still charges. Then in 2000, DBS began to offer local channels, so off I went. Ended up never needing the local feed because my OTA signals were BETTER THAN cable, with the sole exception of ABC. So, last year I paid DTV $55/mo for all digital, plus 10 channels of HBO/Cinemax. This year I added the local feed since ALL local channels are included (about 20), bagged the Cinemax under the new a la carte pricing, but added the new "Plus" package that includes all those new Discovery Channels, and now pay $57/mo. . . for about 160 all digital channels, with 7 HBOs. Yet, today, Adelphia analog customers are paying the same $46/mo, but have, I must guess, about 8-9 less channels than when I left the service, and stuck with a fuzzy POS picture. Believe me, em, the City, isn't gonna let Adelphia get away this ripoff. Its about time basic service be offered at basic prices, which should not be more than $30/mo.

Ripoff, yes, But no one forced you to stick with these "lame-o's." You shoulda dump them like I did, in the Fall of 2000. I gave them a year after the prices went up, and Adelphia entered the scene. But I quickly discovered it was the same ol' BS, just a new sign on the door.

Yup. It remains to be seen. Can't predict whether Perron will live up to his promise despite the cloud hanging over the LA systems. My prediction is that if they turn on access, it will only be in a few neighborhoods just to say they have access. But we'll see.

Who cares about credit? You want good, reliable TV service. When I used to call Adelphia when my TV was out, which was about every 2-3 weeks, when I had them in Bel-Air, they used to offer me a pro rata credit on my next bill. Came to about $.42, or $1.42, don't recall, but really, BFD. Simply not worth it, man.
You need to get your self a dish for your TV service and rid yourself of these loosers. It seems DISH is practically giving their service away. You should look into. Even if you go with PowerStink, the $10/mo. savings, IMHO, is not worth the misery of Adelphia's digital cable. Plus, you're likely to get more channels over DBS. The only channel you won't get is the one with Bill Rosendahl's mug always on it, which, is a positive in my book.
