 | In the new firmware, is it possible to put more information in the PPPoE section?
For instance:
When Connected, the time and how long the connection has been established?

 | reply to Linksys Tech2 I have found I can not disable any of the features in the filter section such as blocking WAN requests, IPSec Pass through. When ever I try to disable I get the password pop up but it does not accept any password. |
|
 | Make sure you aren't using any HTTP proxy software when you access the linksys. If you are you need to put the Linksys address in the exceptions list of the browser. |

 | reply to Linksys Tech2 Anyone else having a problem with the wireless part "breaking". I had have to change the toggel setting 3-4 sometimes 5 times to get it to turn back on. |
|
 | I found messing around with the settings in the wireless area too much would cause the WLAN light to go off, and the only way to get it back is to do a hard reset.
To those who use Netmeeting in WinXP and UPNP:
Does it work? Do you have to configure anything? Or do you just start up Netmeeting, and ask the person to connect to your external IP address?

Will Linksys confirm Beta does not support FTP ? Will tech confirm that the new BETA no longer supports the PORT 21 FTP behaviour of previous firmware releases? Is this just a bug (afterall it is "beta") or has that "feature" been dropped from the firmware intentionally. |

This would be extremely useful information, basic really.
Ive "suggested" the very same info be displayed/made available several times.
The amusing thing is, the gateway "does" keep track of this info, but by default, doesnt log it, or make it available via SNMP based logging utilities.
You have to access the "hidden" "LogManage.htm" page and enable logging for PPPoE, to have it make this info available via SNMP logging, but Linksys's own goofy "LogViewer" app only shows "Access", nothing else, so you would have to use a third party logging utility to see any logs.
Not to mention that this type of information should be made available and is made available via UPnP to the UPnP Control Points (Windows PCs), except that, Linksys firmwares arent (yet) providing the proper "Duration" time for the gateway's WAN connection via UPnP to UPnP CPs, especially when the user uses PPPoE with "connect on demand" enabled. (this is a firmware bug)
Regardless, logs arent the best/easiest way to obtain this info for users in "real-time", but they do help. They do need to display this info on the "Status" page - there really isnt any good reason it isnt.

NetMeeting doesnt use UPnP, in any version/build, on any OS..
Microsoft has also effectively discontinued NetMeeting development.
Regardless, NetMeeting works, but if you wish to receive incoming calls, you must forward several TCP ports (1503, 1720, 1731), and/or use DMZ (for full audio/video usage as well).
Outgoing connections are not a problem.
Linksys could add H.323/NetMeeting ALG code, but they dont seem to care too much about it (Windows ICS has H.323/NetMeeting ALG code, etc etc).

 | UPnP in LAN but not in Wireless? I am using this beta firmware and something does not make sense, Both my PC (LAN) and laptop (Wireless) see the router as a UPnP gateway yet, when I try to send files on MSN (using Trillian) - it will only work from the PC (Lan connection), the laptop (Wirelsss connection) still act as there is no UPnP and will not let me send files. Any ideas? |

Re: Beta Firmware BEFW11S4v1 Hofbrau,
Thanks, I just learned about Netmeeting not supporting Upnp by doing a quick usenet search - oh well.
I'll give those ports a try too!

Re: Beta Firmware BEFW11S4v1 Well UPNP works great for me.
However my Cisco 340 Wireless card now seems to drop off from the Linksys - Same problem with earlier firmwares on the Linky but the more recent ones had worked great... |

I ask them several times about 8 months ago. They just ignore you. LinkSys has bad technical support. |

 | reply to Linksys Tech2 I just upgraded to 1.42.7 and have two problems:
1) Logging to a PC is not working. I can view it on the LinkSys but not with LogViewer. I turned off port 162 UDP in ZoneAlarm and I don't even get warnings about traffic so I assume the LinkSys is not sending it. Have verified Logging is enabled and that the IPs match. 2) I can't get through the LinkSys to my Cisco 678 either via web or telnet. I don't even get an entry in the outgoing log table! I have verified that the default gateway on the PC points to the LinkSys and the default gateway on the LinkSys points to eth0 on the Cisco. Web and telnet attempts to the internet do get log entries.
I have set up static IPs from the Cisco ethernet inward, if that makes any difference. I have also passed in some external traffic through NAT entries on the Cisco and port forwarding on the LinkSys.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Is it possible to add a feature that is common in other routers, but on in the BEFW11S4v1. I would like to have the DHCP server assign a user defined IP address to certain mac address. This way I can use DHCP on all my machines rather than a static assignment and not screw up the IP virtual port mappings. I've been running the beta without problems so far. I did encounter a problem with the wan interface getting locked up and the the MAC Address security not working, but after I restored to factory defaults and re-pushed up the firmware everything has been working great. |

only thing i see is when i check my LINK QUALITY and SIGNAL STRENGTH on my D-Link Dwl-650 wireless lan card, the meters fluctuate up and down alot, between 80% and 100%, never lower, ..doesn't drop off at all, just fluctuates on both of them...
i did a couple speed tests, all seem to be normal so far, about the same speeds i've been getting ... -- --fmtek |

Re: Resetting with wireless and beta code In response to my resetting router.. This has happened before.. on some versions of firmware.. It is one of the first ones out, it had 1.37.2 loaded when I got it (like in the first month they came out).. so it might be a problem with compatitibility with my particilar router.. the last version we had that was released has been rock solid.. |

Re: Beta Firmware BEFW11S4v1 have used it for about 5 days now.
works like a charm. upnp works both wired and wireless. mac filtering finally works and SSID non-broadcast works as advertised.
great work linksys!
now, if only they could fix the range problem of my WPC11 version 1.0... |
