Re: Beta Firmware BEFW11S4v1 - WiFi Talon,
Is it possible that you couldn't get your wireless to work because the wireless mode hadn't actually enabled? (WLAN Link light dead).
This is a problem with the firmware (for me, anyway), but there is a simple workaround -- the problem only occurs when resetting/reconfiguring the router and then only some of the time. Resetting it a second time brings back the WLAN. One user said that their WLAN was completely gone with 1.42.7, however. |

Re: Beta Firmware BEFW11S4v1 Firmware doesn't seem to select left or right antenna correctly. I use an outdoor antenna on the left port, never had output on outdoor antenna with "left spread" turned on. |

..just wondering

Re: WLAN problem I haven't found a solution for the "occasional dead WLAN, need another reset" problem with 1.42.7. It hasn't bothered me much, because it isn't a persistent problem, but it is mildly annoying.
I'm wondering if when it resets, something goes wrong and it doesn't get around to resetting/rebooting the wireless firmware (v1.1.1). |

Re: Beta Firmware BEFW11S4v1 FTP I put a packet monitor on an attempted PORT mode FTP connection. Looks like the router goes into a loop after receiving the "Port command successful" response from the server. Then times out. Sometimes however, after a reset of the Linksys the PORT mode will work until the next reset. Usually though it doesn't. If "Linksys TECH" is interested I'll be glad to email him/her the capture file. |

Re: Beta Firmware BEFW11S4v1 I was hit by that 'WLAN dead' problem just a few days ago while trying to power cycle the modem and router. Tried enable/disable trick I used before successfully couple times and it did not work. Go to the wireless page and toggle some settings and apply. Finally get it back on. I can't believe Linksys did not fix this bug for so long (since 1.39.2).

| I was changing client cards and WEP settings the other day and saw that symptom. I fixed it by toggling the SSID Associate function. I just re-created it with a different client card. Resetting the router clears it (which happens when you change the SSID broadcast.
Looks like a timing thing - a router reset can cause or restore a loss of WAN connectivity. -- Surf Without Strings |

 | Read through previous posts on this tread. PORT mode FTP in 1.42.7 is broken and Linksys went "gold" with it anyway. |
|
 | reply to Linksys Tech2 Yes, they went "gold" full knowing that port mode ftp wasn't working. Which is very irresponsible in my opinion. I wish I was a programmer. I would just recycle that part of the code that controls ftp from 1.39.2 and patch it in to 1.42.7. It probably isn't that simple though. They may have run out of room on the rom chip with all that pc-cillin and zone alarm pro garbage. What a horrible trade-off. I've been toggling between 1.39.2 and 1.42.7 for the last two weeks. Are they ever going to fix this? |

 | "Yes, they went "gold" full knowing that port mode ftp wasn't working. Which is very irresponsible in my opinion."
Ah yes. Linksys doesnt have a clue what "beta" and "release" mean, and they certainly dont have a clue, on how to run and manage a simple beta program.
Linksys is clearly a "Mickey Mouse" corporation when it comes to almost anything, especially support.
Irresponsible indeed.
Perhaps this is why i refer to Linksys as the "soon-to-be-3dfx of the SOHO networking market"...
"I wish I was a programmer. I would just recycle that part of the code that controls ftp from 1.39.2 and patch it in to 1.42.7. It probably isn't that simple though."
Now, you are expecting far far too much from these poor downtrodden low-wage-earning english-as-a-tertiary-language southeast-asian firmware programmers.
You expect them to do things like apply a simple logical testing regimen to all firmware code changes to verify expected functionality.
Sadly, it is that simple.
"They may have run out of room on the rom chip with all that pc-cillin and zone alarm pro garbage. What a horrible trade-off."
It is indeed complete and utter useless garbage, that adds zero useful functionality to the gateway device.
Indeed, space is limited, which is why they removed the graphical tabs and help, etc etc.
And then of course the additional UPnP code also has space requirements, but they still have that useless "Security" code taking up space...
The reason its there, and will remain there, is because of the cross-marketing and licensing/bundling agreements they have with Zone Labs and Trend Micro. Unless and until those agreements go the way of the buggy-whip, we are pretty much stuck with the ramifications of the inclusion of the code.
"I've been toggling between 1.39.2 and 1.42.7 for the last two weeks. Are they ever going to fix this?"
That, and all the other numerous known documented bugs? One can only hope. They do seem to be increasing the pace of their firmware updates somewhat, perhaps they have hired more firmware programmers, and are re-using code modules across the different models, which saves time, etc etc.
Unfortunately, that also means that a bug/limitation that exists in one model, will also exist in another model, that uses the same modular code.
However, this does have the potential benefit of making it clear as day, to the firmware programmers, what the bugs are, assuming they know about the bugs, and assuming they actually intend to fix them.
And that, is, indeed, very questionable, since they clearly have completely ignored/not-addressed several known bugs in the entire 1.42.x series of firmware, and even bugs extant prior to that.

Havent tried netmeeting and Win2k yet. Will do soon. In the meantime, if anyone can find someinfo on the BEFW11S4 's wireless problems, please post it. Thanks |
