Anon | Is PSN lying to me? First they told me I could get 416k SDSL, but now they say I'm 21,000 ft from CO and only get 144k IDSL. This site says I am 14k-15k ft from CO and so does another. I looked at a map of the CO to my house and it is less than 3 mi, so is PSN lying to me?
Has this happened to anyone else? |

Anon | Your path to the telephone company doesn't always take the shortest route. It might go all the way around another block until it starts heading toward the C.O. If you knew exactly where the wires were buried then you might be able to find out for sure.

No distances vary based on data in a database... The database listed me at 17,900 ft for prequalification. 2Wire's site had a database search too and it listed me at 13000ft to Northpoint and 15,000ft to Covad, yet they were in the same CO - obviously from two data sources.
Bell Atlantic tested me at 15,000ft when tracing a cable fault.
Northpoint tested me at 18,000ft when they were testing the Link.
I drove the cable run and followed the cable exactly doubling back and ended up at 2 1/2 miles. So with a 1/2mile over run I'd say my calculation was about 15800ft.
Wow...the differences made or broke my chance to get DSL so I opted for SDSL and the level of service they were even willing to try. In the end I selected 416/416 and its running at about 386/386. |
