Nanaki posted : Um im fairly sure that when the s8 hits samsung will be using usb c which would be at least as fast as sd card well basically. I mean you seriously wont need any faster tfer rate. Lets say you has a 1gb internal storage on the s8 and usb c it wont take that long to transfer a entirely full drive to your comp or from it . Im about to head off to bed or id do the math and get the transfer rates for usb c etc but a little late here. Now thats if the s8 has a 1 gb option and assuming transferring a entirely filled phones storage of 1tb in one session. Not likely to ever be something you need to do.

Nanaki posted : My note 3 has 32 gb internal storage and i don't even have a sd card in it and have well over a 3rd of that storage left. Now if i go out on a call ill load it up with the tools of the trade that i need for the job and then remove when done. Takes 30 seconds to transfer them from my comp to my phone as needed. Thats most all i do with my phones storage. But as i said the s8 will likely start at 128gb or higher on up to 512 gb or higher.

Selenia posted : Back on topic...There is something to be said about plunking down for large internal storage. It is much faster than any MicroSD card, especially in higher end devices. Not only that, many modern implementations use a virtual device that allows dynamic resizing of partitions like /system, /data, /cache, and /sdcard so that you can use as much as you want for what you want(like apps) without a single GB wasted. I have a 128GB Nexus 6P but still have a 16GB tablet that I use adoptable storage with a 64GB class 10 card. The tablet performs well enough to keep for awhile longer but the phone is definitely snappier at filesystem operations. Well worth it IMHO. It can be good to have a MicroSD option but large internal storage is great. Eliminating SD cards makes sense for manufacturers in a way. It cuts down on service calls resulting from cheap, improperly formatted, defective, or corrupted SD cards which can create problems that aren't obviously the card until somebody removes it but people don't always think to do that as a troubleshooting measure. I have come across a couple flaky SD cards where when I removed them the device functioned as normal and continued to do so after I replaced the card.
