Faster transfer to the computer, using a computers SD slot is normally a lot faster then usb transfer.

I have come across a couple flaky SD cards where when I removed them the device functioned as normal and continued to do so after I replaced the card.

Look fellas, im not telling you "not" to use the cloud, if you want to use it that's fine by me but it's nothing new, it's just old tech wrapped up in new marketing terms.

You need to be able to cut thru BS marketing or you'll get taken.
I remember in 3rd grade we had someone come on and they dissected TV commercials and explained how marketing hypes products.

It was as eye opener as a kid.

The cloud has its purpose just as much as physical media has its purpose.

Who said it was new? Things progress (sometimes regress), technology changes. Evolves. The cloud is just an evolution of past server solutions.

That being said, I don't piss around with SD cards or USB sticks anymore (except for 1 stick I use for non-connected devices). My phone was stolen and along with it, some very important information and media. Everything is immediately backed up to "the cloud" on my mobile devices. The redundancies in place at most data centers is more than enough.

I use google devices so I don't use sd cards(there are no slots) but then again I want my updates in a timely manner which the other oems don't do.

And if your think about it since apple controls 49% of the us smartphone market a lot of people don't use sd cards

I can vouch for that. Bought one of those and not only was it slow as you-know-what, could only format it using a special cmdline based formatting tool. It would format, but the data on it would always get corrupted since they had hacked it in the first place to over-report the size of the memory. Data stored to invalid locations got fubarred.

Most people do not swap cards in and out of their phones. they get a card, they stick in their phone and it sits there.

It will cost you a lot less to expand your phones storage by getting a bigger sdcard then it will to buy a bigger internal storage.
As far as the cloud goes.. I have no use for it, If I want to access files I don't have currently on local storage I VPN home and access them on my file server, but by all means you keep throwing your shit on servers you don't control and be happy..

Cloud is not always available, or it can cost quite a bit of money to access it. I'm not sure how much 32 GB would cost on an average data plan, but I have a feeling that a 32 GB uSD card is a much better deal in the long run.

However, I have lost countless gigs of data due to corrupted removable storage.

I really don't miss it at all.
