Re: [CenturyTel] 17225 Area Code DSL problems

House built in 2006, service is underground. Pole is in front yard, 25 yards from the NID. There is a fair amount of crackle, hiss, and static on the landline. Interesting that I went over 7 hours (according to the DSL Link Uptime parameter) without a retrain but when I picked up the land line the DSL went out.

That is a big problem. It should be a pretty quite line. Call CL and tell them this, along with the new constant DSL resyncing which you don't not experience before.

If there is noise on the landline, it will often be the cause of DSL issues. Make sure you report the noisy Landline when you ask Centurylink to send a technician. Whatever is causing the noise on the landline is probably also upsetting your DSL.
Phone service is regulated and CenturyLink has to respond and fix a phone issue. DSL is unregulated and they can be somewhat unresponsive to a DSL issue. So, stress that you have a phone line issue and DSL issue.
Do you have a NID that includes a filter to separate the DSL from the phones? If not, they should replace the NID.
The old way was to place filters at each phone. Now they filter things at the NID.

Can you disturb the DSL again by picking up the phone? If so, show the technician if you can. Your DSL is marginal so it does not take much to upset it.

CL came out today. They put me on a new copper pair and said that their was a problem at the terminal closure where my service was connected to the pole line. Something about the n-section being installed. I didn't quite understand what he meant. He also said the DSLAM I am connected to is old and a piece of sh_t. There is a new concrete pad that was poured and he said that this spring the existing plant will be replaced with newer tech.

So, your DSL is now running at the proper speed? If you see the old DSLAM being replaced, you will probably be able to order a much faster speed. Yes, it may cost more, but it usually is not much more and it just feels good of have a little more speed.

I went from 10 down and 1 up to 25 down and 2 up. The additional upload is good if you do any video chat with friends or any other significant uploading. if you upgrade, if may take you off of the old ADSL and put you on VDSL. If so, you will probably need a new modem.
I have 25/2 on a single Pair (VDSL). Getting a faster speed might require two pairs.
