| Nigerian Advance Fee Fraud Nigerian Advance Fee Fraud is nothing new - it has been happening for quite some time now and has recently migrated to the Internet. Nigerian scam artists have now learned how to use spam and decided to broaden their target "market". Originally however AFF got its start in the snail mail and fax world.
The Department Of State published a pamphlet on this problem in April 1997. It is available online as a PDF file here.
A Google Search for sites covering Nigerian AFF is available here.
Anyone who gets an unsolicited "Confidential Business Proposal" from anyone claiming to be from Nigeria - hell, from anyone anywhere in West or Southern Africa - better have a large degree of skepticism, if not outright incredulity, about the validity of the "proposal".
I mean really, just how often does someone offer you a chance at 25-40% of $40,000,000 just for making your bank account available?
I got one of these in a prior ISPs inbox late last year. I closed my account right there and then, and didn't bother to respond.
