Plantrolyhai.....I think I spelled it correctly Oh wait! Maybe it was Polyobitronics. Yeah, that's it. Consolidation is the name of the game in maturing business models. Wonder what's in store for competitors. |

Plantronics is tooling up to compete with Logitech, who have been making inroads into Enterprise UC/VC. The PE firm makes $300M on their rather short term efforts. |

The key word here is the 'private equity firm', which recently took over Plantronics. Wonder what's in the store for consumers specifically for us who depend on Obis. As much as we were unhappy about Obihai's miserable CS and other shenanigans, VoIP ATAs was their bread and butter. In the new combined giant, it will be a minor side business. Mergers are rarely beneficial for consumers. let's hope this one will be. |

They will saddle Plantronics with crushing debt, suck as much as they can out of it and let it fail. |

said by Mango: Plantronics to buy Polycom (and Obihai) I hope they will work with Google to keep "chat" working with Obihai hardware. The GV chat feature is old and AFAIK only used by Obihai and maybe PcPhoneSoft. The option is only in the GV "legacy" version which suggests it's obsolete in Googles minds and ready to be dropped. |

So Obihai was bought by Polycom in January. Then Polycom was bought by Plantronics in July. And now Plantronics may be bought by Logitech, though that seems to have fizzled out at the moment. » www.reuters.com/article/ ··· CN1NV03H----- Logitech may just be playing hard to get. All's fair in love, war, and business. As they said in "The Fantasticks": Deep in December, it's nice to remember, Although you know the snow will follow.
Deep in December, it's nice to remember, Without a hurt the heart is hollow.
Deep in December, it's nice to remember, The fire of September that made us mellow.
Deep in December, our hearts should remember And follow. » www.lyricsondemand.com/s ··· ics.html |

Deal cancelled.
Update (11/25): The full statement reads: "In response to media reports and in accordance with Swiss disclosure requirements, Logitech International today confirmed it was engaged in discussions with Plantronics regarding a potential transaction. However, those discussions were terminated. Logitech does not intend to comment further." |

How would a sale to Logitech, had it gone through, potentially affected the IP phones and ATA lines of products? |

Meh. Thank goodness for Sangoma, and the Raspberry Pi Foundation.
And of course the wide selection of SIP-enabled ATA's that still exist in the market.
I dread the day when SIP becomes proprietary, and falls into the hands of the same investment firms gobbling up small players.
If that day comes, we are all screwed and headed back to "nights and weekends" times. |
