| Slow Rogers speed Hi,all.
I living in Sherpped and Don mills area,just install Rogers,but the speed is terrible.
I use Windows 98 SE and Sygate to share the cable with 3 PC,the server only get 70KB/sec,anybody have idea to tweak?
I use a long TV cable,about 16~20 meter to connect my modem,is it the problem?
If I put the modem close to the spliter,I need use 16~20 meter CAt5 cable.Will it cause speed reduce?

anyway i dont think the cable matters... call rogers and tell em ur troubles... they prolly wont do much about it tho... also dont mention u share ur cable... |

what's the normal speed of cable,Is it 1.5M?
it should 1.5MBPS=200k bytes/second.Why some guies can get 300~400k/sec,
i can't image it. |

To start you may want to get rogers in to run a pure line from your drop to the modem. Splitters that aren't or the best make can cause line problems by introducing noise and I think they can also lower the line levels but dont quote me on that. As for running cat5 instead of the coax there should be no difference as to which one you run.
FYI rogers speed is capped at 3000kb/384kb/s

for rogers its 2.5mbps i guess... maybe 3mbps... no1 knows... u should be gettin around 200kB/sec+
i used to live @ victoria park and york mills... it connects to the same rogers building u connect to... its @ york mills and leslie... and i used to get lower speeds too lately... but then i moved... i got arond 80kb/sec during peak hours b4 i moved... so i guess they still didnt fix the speeds for that area...

i download @ 14-30k usuallie... i went negative a few times b4
i upload from 0-10k during day
i think people that were in the old shaw area has it worst. |

this 1 is to the person that said that rogers is capped at 3000/384kbps NOT kb/sec... we all wish that it was kb/sec. it can be explaned like this... kpbs is in binary... that is 1024bites = 1kb, kb/sec is in dec. thats 1000bytes = 1kB. On top of that from wut i have heard the cap u gave is wrong... its 3000/1500kbps... according to the tech support (they are useless, but newayz) ur upstream is half of ur down i.e. 3000down is 1500up. some ppl migh have different reading cuz of a noisy line, bad signal etc., i know in my house, chan. 17-20 dont come in right. the guy that set up the line said id shouldnt be a problem. the cable modem shouldnt be affected... the only way to get rogers off their fat asses and od smthing is to kepp calling, and e-mailing, thats wut i did, and i get 50-300kB/sec (400-2400kbps) by 10-50kB/sec (80-400kbps).
BTW to change kB/sec to kbps times by 8, and to change kbps to kB/sec divide by 8

What exactly are you talking about? I didn't say it was KB/s anywhere. I said 3mb/384kb/s.
Thanks for the math lesson. I personally knew that but I'm sure it will help green 
And that is the correct cap trust me.
