DSL vs Powergate

The service is capped at 5gig/mo ($10 for every additional 5gig i think) and 10k a second upstream, average download speeds are 30-75kb a second per connection with a max overall throughput of 250k a second. I recently switched to DSL from powergate cable and pay $20 less a month (That's $240 less a year) for much higher speeds up and down with no monthly download limit or shared bandwidth with my neighbours. DSL is in 90% of the areas the powergate service is in but much like cable speeds wil vary depending on your location and the provider you choose. While overall throughput of DSL is lower, the speed per connection, speed of loading webpages and lack of a monthly download cap more than make up for it. Local buyers should compare both services in their area before taking the cable plunge.

To rebut:

Upload speeds are capped at 192 kbps (24K), download speeds are capped at 3 Mbps (375K). If you were receiving such low speeds (240 - 600 kbps), you should have contacted us. We typically see speeds of 1.3 Mbps and up on the Speakeasy speed tests.

Your lower monthly rate does not include the $200 purchase cost of the DSL modem that was necessary. Further, I assume that you were not a cable TV customer, as the rate is $10/mo. higher for non-cable customers.

As for caps, since SPEEDe is re-selling Bell's service, expect to see caps sooner rather than later.
