Lite Speeds ?

Anyone using Lite service from rogers now ? How is the speed ? What's the max dload you get ?I currently get about 150Kb d/l and 45Kb u/l but I think I am over-paying with $60/month ? I have a feeling it will be almost the same with the new lite service... Anyone ? Please some real-world reports! Thanks!

Real world? I assume you a talking in Kilobytes right now, so with the lite service, you should see download speeds around 12K/s and uploads around 6K/s. you won't see anything more than that. Just a little better than dial-up, without tying up your phone line.

Hmm that's why I was asking for people to reply who actually USE the service not someone saying what " I should " be getting. Thanks anyway !

Well, guess what? It might be slower! But it won't be any faster than what I said. Have fun with less that 1/10 the speed you have now, although you still haven't made it clear whether you are dealing with Kilobytes or kilobits per second. If you are clear, others will be too. For future reference: K/s = Kilobytes per second = what you see in a download window. k/s = kbps = kilobits per second = what internet providers use as their speed ratings. 1 K/s = 8 k/s.

Be specific. It goes a long way to getting the answers you need, and that's all I was trying to do for you.

Cool. Point taken. I am currently getting 150~200 Kb/sec (download window) ! Anyhow, the reason I asked in the first place is cuz Rogers claims it will be "about half the speed" of what I have now. So I would expect 50-100 Kb/sec going by what they said, but somehow I don't believe it. Of course I would switch to test it myself but they want $50 config fee to switch from one service to another ! Gimme a break! Don't wanna pay $50 to find out how much it sucks! Anyhow any Lite users would be very appreciated to post their speed(s)....

They lie! The top speed you will get is 12k/s on a download with the lite service. It's capped at 128kbps down/64kbps up, so you can do the calculation from there.

Still might have one or 2 people with the lite service to pop in to vouch for this though.

The fact that your download is about 150-250kilobits/sec, it's proven capable of delivering at the 128kilobits/sec that the light service offers, so that's what you should get, less any modem overheads.

He actually gets 150 to 250 kilobytes per second right now.

All the more reason that he'll get damn close to the 128/64kbits per sec ! He's sure gonna be cheesed off, it'll be like watching the bits walk down the wire by comparison!

Kinguni, I installed the lite service for my cousin, the top speed isnt 12 kb, she got higher, she got 14-16 kilobytes. And the upload was 7.5 kilobytes. Its actually worth its money, pages load much faster than dial up, just talking from experience, I personally have rogers hi-speed though. I can't believe rogers told you that speedG3000, its all ish, the advertised speed is 128/64 Kilobits. In other words, 16 kilobytes down, 8 kilobytes up.
Well you shouldnt switch to lite service, if you can afford the hi-speed.

Yah, rogers told me that but knowing how ignorant their sales/support staff usually are I didn't trust them, hence I asked here. It's funny cause I can;t find those lite speeds posted on their site... Oh well DSL doesn't work in my area so guess i'm stuck 8-(

Your right. The calculator in my head wasn't working right this morning. You should see up to 16K/s down and 8K/s up.
