TORONTO, Dec. 1 /CNW/ - Rogers Cable today confirmed that the company has its own alternate high speed Internet network in place and is ready to transition customers quickly if negotiations with Excite @ Home are unsuccessful.
Over the past few months Rogers has readied its own network. It consists of a regional data centre built by Compaq to provide internet services such as email and news; an extensive regional IP (Internet protocol) network which utilizes Cisco hardware riding over Rogers fibre optic network connecting all of its cable systems, and connectivity to the global Internet backbone via Teleglobe. "
Comment: Teleglobe today fired 700 employess in Reston, Virginia, which is basically everyone that was in the building except for their sales team, and fired 70 people in their Montréal office, with more to come soon, according to analysts. BCE this week cut ties with it's 6 billion dollar acquistion, sending the company scrambling for funding, many analysts expecting the company to either be sold off in pieces to competitors, or divested entirely to an interested party, except for the voice data infrastructure, which is its most lucrative area. |
