Re: War Driving... I think War Driving articles induce fear if you don't know what's involved. Its not hard to make a wireless network inaccessible to all but the most determined intruder. Which is pretty much the same thing you can say about any PC that has a firewall. Your habits and security awareness/diligence are the key factors in thwarting intrusions.
That said, CAT5 is certainly the speed champ, but often it is the inconvenience champ, too.
