Still supporting the good stuff.

Support what you like. Go to the movies, buy the software, rent the video.

If they start passing laws then I for one will not do any of the above. MS paint for PS7. TV and no movies. ect..

Why not go after the real A'Hole's who steal this out right. Any one remember Black Hawk Down was in theaters in Samalia(or what ever the 3rd world place is) for free about a day after it came out. My old boss use to go to Hong Kong and places over there and they have WHOLE shops with nothing but copys of movies in VCD/DVD/VHS/ and any other format that you might need..

Its sad that they(Congress,RIAA,ect.) only have the balls to pick on people in there own country. I'd rather live in Canada if this crap gets to bad. If its outlawed then only the outlaws will have them.

More copyright legislation coming...

Yea, their position that bootleg movies hurt sales is the biggest bunch of BS I've ever heard! Let's even say I wanted to try and hunt down and download say StarWars before it premiered; It can in no way compare to the theater experience, and next week when it comes out, I will watch it again, and eventually probably buy the dvd (assuming I like it) even though I downloaded the bootleg a week before it came out!?! Come on, please.

Stop treating us like nimble minded morons! We are smart enough to understand your lying to us, and using whatever possible to stop what you think is your HUGE profits from going out the window!!

Re: More copyright legislation coming...

I have the Star Wars ep2 ftf release.
Its extremely poor quality and I wont be watching it until I see it in theatres first.
I do like getting good SVCD and DVDrips and burning them for my personal collection.
I could give a shit less if piracy hurts the movie companies, but it doesnt, so the point is moot.

Oh, and by the way, the Centropy Spiderman release ISNT a Cam, its a Telesync. Big difference. A telesync is captured digitally straight from the reel, not from a camera on a tripod in the theatre.

For all you newbs who dont know any better here is the quality order:

Cams = worst. Stay far, far away.

Telesync = better than cams but about as good as old re-recorded VCR tape. The Spiderman Telesync in SVCD is the best I've seen so far. Telesyncs are rarely worth keeping after you've watched them since a dvdrip will come out eventually. But some, like Spiderman, are acceptable quality.

DVDrip = Best. Properly encoded, you can get a full movie on one cd with close to dvd picture quality and sound.

SVCD = file format from various rips. SVCD from a dvdrip is nice cuz you can watch on a home dvd player that supports it. A good .avi from a dvd converted to an SVCD has minimal quality loss. Regular VCD's are lower quality than svcd's and should be avoided unless they are telesync which is usually low qual enough that a vcd wont compromise it.

Re: More copyright legislation coming...

If I read the article correctly, she said "steady cam", as you wrote, a TS is taken from the real, without getting too technical, thats a TC, a TS is with a standard camera, generally of better quality. However the audio source is seperate unlike a cam, therefor you wont here the audience.

If youd like to read more about it,

No way:

Workprint - Usually released way before the movie is released. It's actually an unfinished portion of the movie... usually leaks out from someone working on the set or in the background. It's could be missing scenes from the movie, missing a musical soundtrack, or have projection reel changes in it.

Cams - first released, usually. Some are good, most aren't.

Telesyncs. Still done with camera on tripod in theater, or in projection room, but sound is done from handicap jacks in the seats or directly from the projector... so video is similar to cam, but audio is very good.

Screeners - actual pre-released videotapes that are usually given to movie award shows, movie reviewers, or video rental stores looking to decide if it's a movie they want to carry... obviously it leaks out and gets ripped.

DVD-Screener - Same as above but being ripped from a DVD source.

Then when the movie gets released you have a dvdrip of it.

You are assuming that all of us will watch it in the theaters. You are right, thought, the rips arnt like the theathers... if they are hi-quality then it dosent matter anymore. you can pause, go pee and not miss anything, and best of all the food is free!

That's exactly what they don't want you to do. They already know if they make a good movie we'll go to see it several times. They want us to pay to see the crap they put out the rest of the time too though.
