$99 per month is a bit pricey for me. I was at 39.95 with Flashcom and am getting the same rate from Earthlink. My trabsfer happened in the wee hours while I was asleep, so I saw no interruption of service BR |

Waiola join:2000-09-06 La Grange, IL | reply to the value I received a call from ASAPNetworks on 1/16/2001. The guy that cold called me told me that Flashcom was bankrupt and that if I don't change my DSL service to ASAPNetworks right away, our office DSL service is likely to be lost almost immediately. He implied that ASAPNetworks was the provider that Covad had designated to succeed Flashcom's Covad customers. When I pointed out that I could not find his company on DSLreports and also was having a hard time finding them on the web, he checked with someone in the back room and told me their web address is dslasap.com This was after he gave me a bad address (asap.com) which I pointed out was a software company, not an ISP. He told me he was not a salesman, he was just trying to do me a favor by letting me know my DSL service would be cut off if I don't sign up with ASAPNetworks immediately. He then proceeded to call me back several times in the next four hours, each time leaving increasingly ominous messages for me to immediately sign the migration request form he sent me TODAY. I decided to take a pass on ASAPNetworks. |

| reply to the value Still waiting for them to call me. In the meantime, I checked out their home DSL pricing at http://www.dslasap.com/connect/homepricing.html. Their prices are way out of line - $79.95/mo for 768K ADSL!
If they call, I am going to pass on them. Just browsing through their site I do not get a warm fuzzy feeling about them. |

Anon | reply to the value I had the same experience as "waiola"...asap sounds like thier main marketing plan is to scam people into taking asap service by trying to scare them, I'll pass on asap too...I don't trust them |
|
 | reply to the value I got a call from them this morning I won't even call them back i'll wait to get something official from covad or flashcom before i do any switching. |

Anon | reply to the value I had also been called and put up a similiar topic (flashcom to asap) I spoke with a person I have been coordinating with at Flashcom (people are still there, if you have a business account, you can probably still reach your account manager), and he told me that in no way are they affiliated with them or Covad. He clearly stated that ASAP is in no way the arranged ISP for the transition, and that there is still a possibililty that Flashcom is keeping their Covad accounts (although he was vague, I don't want to be the one to state that as a matter of fact). My take - Do I want to get involved with an ISP that goes and lies to potential customers to gain their business - I think not. I had signed and faxed a request for release of lines to them, as they said if I didn't my DSL service would be dropped by Flashcom. If anyone knows how to get out of that, please let me know by responding to this post, I have a bad feeling about this situation. |

 | reply to the value ASAP can get in alot of trouble for soliciting Flashcom's customers. I would not want to be the saleman convicted in court. Chapter 11 courts are not only civil courts and can issue criminal citations. Watch out ASAP. |
|
 | I spoke directly with Covad after receiving a change form from ASAP Networks with Covad's logo on it. I immediatly called Covad and was told to ignore them. If you goto Covads Sefty Net Site they will have more information. STAY AWAY FROM ASAP NETWORKS......... |
|
 | I'm a Flashcom ISP customer (Covad provides the bandwidth). I - too - received a telephone call yesterday, indicating that Flashcom had filed for bankruptcy (first I heard of it), stating that my connect was in jeopardy.
I didn't get a *warm & fuzzy* feeling in talking with this rep from ASAP networks. But my attempts to find out whether or not Flashcom is shutting down it's Covad customers has met w/negative results. I've even left a few messages w/the Covad Safety Net, yet have not heard back from them.
In short, I'm in limbo. Any advice that any of you could lend? My thanks in advance. |

 | reply to the value Wow! These guys have scripted their sales pitch to a T. I have received the same calls as all of the other posts, as well as numerous e-mails. I've even been switched to various sales persons. I think I'll pass on this outfit also, and work through Covad for a switch from Flashcom. |

This is the last part of an email I received from Covad Safety Net:
Most importantly, there is no penalty for you to cancel your line at this time. We want to make this as simple as possible to migrate or cancel your line. Please contact me if you have any other questions.
Thank you,

I find myself in the same position. Despite the horror stories about them, Telocity has everything I am looking for; price, static IP, no PPPoe and no contract. However, I have not been able to get enough information to find out if they will support my existing line. Also, there was a rumor floated that they may go under in a few weeks. Just a rumor...

They say dynamic ip, but their sales dept as well as tech support now say static. for 69.95, you can get 1.5/384 -- "The one who dies with the most ram wins." |

| Where did you find $49.95 price for static IP from Speakeasy? I am on their site at this moment at »www.speakeasy.net/dsl/step1.cgi and the only $49.95 option is "Essential Edge Basic". The "Essential Edge Plus" and "Sysadmin/radsl/usr" packages are identical, have a static IP address and cost $59.95. There is also the "Gamer/Rail" package which is the same as the previous mentioned packages but also includes something called "GameSpy Software". Finally, there is the "Insider/Trader/Novice" package which does not include a Linux shell account. All of these packages are also $59.95 according to the URL above.
The crazy thing is all I need is one POP mailbox and a static IP. I do not need; a) Linux shell (I run several Solaris servers and a Linux server already), b) 10MB Webspace (I have access to about 30GB right now) or c) Extra dialup account (I have a 10 hour AT&T Worldnet dialup bundled with my long distance service).
Robert
(Now signing off for the night. Temperature is about 27°F right now which means the line will be down in the morning.) |

| reply to Jacob Well I think I was able to answer my question and I do not like it. I found the following blurb on their web page at »www.speakeasy.net/main.php?page=···view=reg
quote:
Residential Packages The number of static IPs vary from package to package. Additional IPs are $2.95 per month, with the maximum allotment for each Residential package being 10. "Basic" RADSL packages are an exception to this rule. They are limited to one dynamic IP only. At this time we are assigning a static IP to these services, as the ENI 5260 cannot be configured to use dynamic IPs without specific software. We are currently testing various software applications for future use, and reserve the right to switch a static IP to dynamic at any time during your term of service for these Basic RADSL packages.
I find the clause "reserve the right to switch a static IP to dynamic at any time during your term of service for these Basic RADSL packages". What is really beginning to bug me about this whole switch is the feeling of having a gun put to my head and being told;
You will switch to us. You will accept our terms and like it. You will pay what we say. You have no choice. Time is running out, your line dies any day now.
What if I choose not to accept their dynamic IP service? Can I cancel? Probably not - Contract. I just talked to another ISP and, while they currently have Covad customers, they are not taking anymore Covad circuits. They offered me a line via Rhythms but it would be a new install.
I am getting real tired of the DSL (and broadband) market. |

Anon | reply to the value I work for ASAPnetworks, we offer SDSL for commercial customers. We focus on hard to configure-router - router interfacing / firewall / VPN / Fiber.
In regards to switching Covad Lines, we work with CAIS Internet Safety Net Partner that Covad has forged a relationship with to offer SDSL Services on a Wholesale Basis.
We only contact our existing customer base and our partners customers only.
We did have a sales person that was contacting prospects that he lost to FlashCom, trying to regain their business. He is no longer with our organization. Our apologies for the intrusion.
FlashCom is shutting down circuits on March 16th
. please sign up with the ISP that can service your needs. Choose one that is aligned with the Safety Net Partners.
If there is anything that I have not covered, please feel free to contact ASAPnetworks @ service1st@dslasap.com |
