Microsoft → windows 98/2000 help

Hey, i just have a question. I installed 2000pro on a computer that had windows 98. I wanted to keep the files and stuff i had on the comp so i didn't clean install. I chose the option that said use the same format or something like that, can't remember. It backed up my files and installed 2000. I see a backup file, how do i restore those files. Is it supposed to do it automatically or am I supposed to do it somehow. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
