SpeedStream 5851, PP2P?I am trying to setup a PPTP VPN. I am a novice as far as VPN goes. I believe I have the PPTP setup on the router correctly, when I "dial" the VPN connection with WIN2000 PRO I get 678 no answer error. I should but the router's public IP in the host section correct? Any help? |

What version of firmware is on the router, if it is above 5.30 you do not need to do anything to the router. |

I am pretty sure I am doing it right in the GUI tool, but I get the error: Can't open TFTP file for reading. |

Change the file name to 8x3 format after you unzip the file. the tftp server looks in the dsl folder by default so make so it is in that folder as well. |

Do I have to be on the LAN of the router to perform? I am trying to do this remotely... |

I would suggest that the file and the tftp server be on the lan. There is command line syntax that allows you to upgrade remotely "copy tftp@(ipaddress of tftp server on lan):filename on same address kernel.f2k or copy tftp@192.168.254.2:5861-001.530 kernel.f2k
This would assume you can telnet to the router, the tftp server needs to be started on the local pc and the root set to the files location on the local pc. |

As far as the files... This is what is contained in the Zip file:
5851-015.5380 medsec.txt maxsec.txt minsec.txt nosec.txt
What is firmware? and how is it utilized? |

the file 5851-015.5380 is the firmware. The others are firewall scripts, if you use the scripts read the info on efficients support about firewalls. |
