IP with Rogers

How long does it take for you to get a new ip? I've tried the release/renew process and nothing seems to work. I've had that IP for @least 2 months.

Thanks

Most of the time when the IP's are renewed with rogers you get the same one unless they have re-segmented your node or have made some other change. If you are on a busy hub you may get a new IP if your computer is off when the DHCP is renewed but most people keep the same IP for long periods of time

Since Rogers register your internal network card address (and it is damn annoying btw), you can just change your network card if you have spares to get new IP(s).

If you can't get an IP because you changed computers or network cards, then just call rogers up and ask for a mac address lock reset. If you didn't change anything and you just lost your IP, then its a DHCP or registration issue and should be investigated by a rogers tech.

I have switched network cards and it didn't give me a new IP address. I also got Rogers to release and renew my MAC address which also didn't change my IP.

yeah, on a motorola modem, if my memory is correct, you are locked on to that IP until you get a new modem, as opposed to a terayon, where it is hardware locked. If you have a pressing reason you need a new IP address, the first thing I would do would be to turn my modem off for 24 hours and see if that helps. Otherwise, try and get Rogers to force a new IP on you.
