Re: My area is finally docsis. I'm getting rogers!

Is the new terayon modem docsis? When i say new i mean the one that looks newer (not the old box one). Its the new aerodynamic lookin' one. Also, i've been experiencing some pretty bad speeds as of late. The pingtimes start out great (66ms @ 8am)and then drop (200ms @ 12:00pm). Any suggestions?

no that modem aint docsis
and the high pings are cause by congestion... call rogers up... but they prolly aint gonna do anything about it

Yes unfortunately, your ping times are bad, but not bad ENOUGH for Rogers to do something about. 200ms is considered acceptable, they will only issue a ticket to take a look at increasing bandwidth and/or additional equipment in your headend when you have consistantly over 300ms.

Like datac said bad to Rogers is 300ms+, which is what I'm getting. They said my connection is borderline cuz in the tests they did i was getting sometimes above 300ms and sometimes below 300ms. On Friday a technician came to change my modem but just gave me another motorola. Rogers told me that they will only give me a DOCSIS modem if this one now does not fix my high pings and packet loss (which i know it won't).

hey DJ...aside from the bit caps stuff..are you missing sympatico yet??

P.S. pings are still rock solid (15-19 ms) and speeds are still always consistent (about 975 kbps, anytime of day).

if my pings were as low as urs and my speeds were as good as urs i woulda stayed with dsl... not sympatico tho
unfortunately my area has old telephone lines... so no dsl for me... unless rogers becomes horrible
