Re: Rogers Speed Test starting June 2002 the FCC in the US (their version of the CRTC), recently ruled that cable providers MUST open up their networks to competition to even the playing field for DSL ISP's..so it shouldn't be too much longer before that trickles north of the border. -- Better. Faster. First. |

Yeah I saw that too. Trickle is the operative word. The CRTC spends so much time with their heads up their ______, that they won't get around to this in any meaningful timeframe. Once again, don't hold your breath. |

| Yeah, up their @$$ is the right word, they recently de-regulated the basic cable rates, so its inevitable that the basic cable service will go up in price within the next few months, and will keep going up. On a good note, the CRTC kept the basic phone rates regulated for another 4 years, protecting us from hikes by the telco's... -- Thanks Leafs for a great season & playoffs. |

 | reply to mau108 Ok, two things here.
- Did the FCC not rule that the cable companies do not have to open up to competition? »Analysts: Cable Firms Avoid Regulation And in any case, the CRTC has already told the cablecos up here that they have to open up their networks, they're just dragging their heels in doing so.
- HiVolt, de-regulation only means that Rogers doesn't have to jump through the hoops to raise prices if they want to. It's never stopped them in the past from raising rates if they so desire, this just eliminates some of the paperwork. They raised rates by $2 this past January ($1 on basic, I believe, and $1 on one of the tiers). And do you really think they're going to drive cable prices through the roof when they're already in a battle to the death with ExpressVu and Star Choice? They are not that stupid. |

It seems to jump all over the place. Also, is anyone having this pausing problem? Like when downloading, it will download for a few seconds, then pause, then restart, and this cycle will countiune until the download is complete, and it's very annoying. Anyone have a soultion? |

I talked to tech support and they informed me that Rogers is now starting to implement upload caps. In some areas it has been set 20kbps.
My speeds are down about 50% from a month ago. |

My connection was like 400/80 yesterday, but I called today and they actually did something in less than an hour. Seriously, this is amazing, and the best thing of all, I didn't have to wait on the phone. |

The gain between full duplex and half duplex on 10mbps is minimal.
