What are the best alternatives?

I am a Seattle Bazillion customer. What suggestions can anyone give me in the area as to the best provider/price
if you have IDSL?

Call Speakeasy. Or go to Covad.net for alternatives.

I'm a Bazillion IDSL victim in the Seattle area too. I called Speakeasy on Monday. They won't transfer ($99 fee) without a release form from Bazillion, and then charge $89.95/mo. Covad.net will transfer you directly, no charge, then $64.95/mo, allegedly up and running in 48 hours. I'll know for sure by Wednesday 1/17. For more information, or to sign up, go to http://www.covad.net and follow the "Covad SafteyNet" link. Good luck to all of us!

Re: What are the best alternatives?

I also had IDSL thru Bazillion and compared both covad.net and Speakeasy. Covad's price was $129/month, no switch fee, and $250 early cancel fee. Speakeasy was $89/month, $99 switch fee, and $250 early cancel fee. Both have a 1 year contract length. Note this is for 144K IDSL.

I ended up signing up with Speakeasy since the monthly charge was cheaper and would make up for the switch fee.

Also, I'm disputing Bazillion's charges on my credit card (I just got a charge for $500+ for install/equipment/2 months service.) I'm deducting the switch fee from Bazillion's bill and prorating the service charges they provided.

Re: What are the best alternatives?

That's interesting that Covad quoted you $129/month for IDSL. Signing up through the Covad SafetyNet program, I got $64.95/month (Seattle area) for IDSL...

Re: What are the best alternatives?

Covad.net is offering two different IDSL packages...$129.95/mo for businesses with a static IP, and $64.95/mo for consumers with a dynamic IP. If you would like to change to the lower plan with the dynamic IP, all you need to do is call Covad.net and they will be able to switch your plan.
Anon Try Seanet. I work there and it is a local (Seattle area) provider offering Covad DSL and other options like Quest and Verizon DSL (Rhythms and Northpoint as well). The cost is higher, but then we are not out of business. We've cleared with Covad the process for switching ISP service for former Bazillion customers so we know what to do. We can get you set up with a dial up account in a couple of minutes in the meantime. We've been around for 6 years, so we are going to fold and leave anyone hanging.

Re: What are the best alternatives?

I just went with Covad.net, $64.95 a month. The extra money does really suck, but what can I do - Go back to dial-up and constant busy signals on my phone line? What really sucks is the 12 month contract, considerng I'll be not living here after August, so I will be paying for service that is not used. We'll see how it goes - I have one month grace period, so if I'm not satisfied I will cancel. I don't think any other places offer IDSL at that price, paying $89.99 for Speakeasy is utterly ludicrous.

Re: What are the best alternatives?

Well, you guys are going to think I am an idiot, because I figure it's cheapter to go with Speakeasy since they have no contract, then pay for the service from Covad.net when it is not used. So I might just do that..I know I Said earlier that paying $89 a month was ridiculous..
