Most probably a firewall issue.

And also you should release and renew IP

Start, run, command
ipconfig/release
ipconfig/renew

do they start and time out? or not start at all?

download a port scanner and scan your own machine... what OS are you running? have you enabled any OS security?

I use windows xp. I don't have a firewall. I'll try to renew my ip adress see if that helps.

Yup this thing of XP's has given me problems before tooo

Alex you will not notice it running, but disable the Interent Connection Firewall Service (start , setting, control panel, administrative tools, services)

Reboot comp and it should fix the problem.
Thanks for reminding me Osupreme...

Oh this is something I'm used to when people switched to XP on a dialup service I worked for, happened all the time.

Thanks, but the Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) isn't started.
