Anon | Out Verizon ISP, in Mach 500 for better speed I have had nothing but trouble with my dsl service since signing up for it. The installation was a nightmare(originally GTE). Finally got it installed and everything was fine for a couple of months. I never have been able to get near the 768 they stated. About two months ago, I started having outages and d/l speeds around 150 all the time. I called customer support many times. They would get me back up and running. After finally complaining about slow speed, they sent someone out to check my line last week. I had to take a day off of work to wait for someone. When he got here, we did a speed test and it came out to around 240. He says that that's not too bad. He tells me my line is OK and that I need to call GTE internet and tell them that I have congestion. They take the information and say that they will "escalate it"(their fancy term to get you to shut up). That same day, I call a local provider and talk to them about signing up. They give me the info I need to tell Verizon Dsl. The rep. tells me that it will be Tuesday. Wednesday I am still not switched. Wednesday evening I try to get my email and I can't. I call and they say that because of me wanting to change my dsl line to another isp, verizon's isp went ahead and dropped me when thy saw the order. I talked to the dsl department and told them that I needed switched to the new isp now. The guy told me that it was scheduled for today(Thursday) and there was nothing he could do. He told me he had someone looking into it and he would call me back. I said to him,"yeah right" and he told me he would. Guess what? He didn't call me back last night. When I got up this morning, it was switched. I have been checking my speed all day and they are staying above 600 consistently! Yeah Mach 500! | | Samson join:2000-01-27 Chino, CA Reviews:

| In defense of Verizon: I just got off the phone with one of their techs. Mentioned to him that I'm shopping for a new ISP, and he told me that the standard policy is a 3 day turn around to switch ISPs. He warned me to expect that I'd have no service during that time. If they got you back up on your new ISP by Thrusday, then it sounds like they did what they were supposed to do.
Regarding your d/l speed issue: I'm experiencing the same problems with my upload. Verizon gold plan - 768K both ways. Ever since the merger, my upload speeds have taken a hit. Performing like its set for 256K up. The tech claimed coincidence, but I'm not buying that. Anyway, they've opened a repair ticket to check it out. I told him quite specifically that I suspect a provisioning problem, something he says isn't the ISPs fault if its true. Switching ISPs may not have saved you from the underlying problem | |
